Episode 7 - inappropriate comment?

Happened to be watching this episode with my kids & thought the oldest daughter's comment about trying to look "hot" while selling brownies slightly inappropriate. A man in his 40's was looking in the direction of her brownie table, she looks over to her little sister and said start acting cute and I'll look hot (not quoting exactly but you get the idea) the older daughter then starts making a "puckered lip" face as the man approaches. Found that that bit very creepy, just seemed inappropriate considering the mans age.

I agree. I thought the same thing when I saw the episode.

well you have Girl Meets World trying to make a romantic relationship out of a 14 year old freshman and a sophomore in college, so what do you expect? And not only that but people actually ship the couple together and wanted it's a happen when that 14 year old freshman was just a 7th grader in season one. Those viewers who support that are creepy

You appear to be confusing the age of the actors with the age of the characters.

Look at this show, for example. The oldest daughter is 16, played by a 15 year old girl and the next is 15, played by a 17 year old girl.

I can even think of two cases of actors in their thirties playing teenagers convincingly along side teenage actors: Stacy Dash in Clueless and the little man who played Hannah Montana's brother.

___________

I'd've gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you meddling kids.

. . . the little man who played Hannah Montana's brother . . .

Jason Earles played Jackson Stewart. He was able to pass as a teenager to me until I learned he is 15 years older than Miley Cyrus. Funny how suddenly one notices that, by golly, that "kid" sure looks a lot older all of a sudden.

Another example: In the late 1980s some of the "kids" playing 17- and 18-year-olds on NBC's Head of the Class were in their mid- to late-20s. I remember reading at the time that one or two of them were 28 in real life.

Seems to be a sitcom fact of life that actors are often two or three years older than their teen characters. On Good Luck Charlie Bridget Mendler and Jason Dolley were three years older than their characters and Kevin Covais, who played super-genius Victor, was seven years older.

Yeah, I know filankey is not a word, but it's gonna catch on.

I'm unclear which characters and actors on GMW you are comparing, crazyforyou19.

If Lucas and Riley, Peyton Meyer is 17 and Rowan Blanchard is 14. If Maya and Lucas, Peyton is only 6 months older than Sabrina Carpenter (both 17 as I write this). If Maya and Josh, Sabrina is two years younger than Uriah Shelton (19). Only Rowan is playing her actual age. (Ages taken from their IMDb biographies.)

As for the main characters: Lucas and Maya are both 15 because each was held back a year; Riley and Farkle are 14. Josh would be in his freshman year at NYU this year if he followed through on his college admission acceptance from last season.

Much older actors have played teenagers with actual teenagers. See my reply to bob-402-252005 below, or above, or wherever it landed.

Yeah, I know filankey is not a word, but it's gonna catch on.

The poster was referring to the characters of Josh and Maya. Maya is only a high school freshman while Josh is in college (freshman, I think). It doesn't matter what the character's real ages are, only the characters' real ages. Josh is legally an adult, over 18, while Maya is underage. Yet, many people ship them.

Yes, that makes the best sense upon second and third readings. It wasn't clear to me at first if she meant ages of the actors or the characters. (After all of the triangle drama with Lucas for the past year I figured Maya was over her Boing! fantasy. But what do I know? I crushed on every sixth girl in high school and batted .000)

Yeah, I know filankey is not a word, but it's gonna catch on.

Maya is crushing on Josh (normal for a girl to crush on an older guy) but he constantly says he is 3 years older than her and they have to wait to decide anything until she older... there is nothing wrong with the relationship between these two because they discuss the age differences and how they cannot hurry anything - her crushing over him is no different than a girl crushing over an actor or singer they like. And they keep in check -- they are not acting on it - they are talking about it. What is disturbing to me on Girl Meets World is when anyone told Lucas he had to CHOOSE - why can a 14 or 15 year old boy date several girls (as friends) as long as they each know... the fact that young teen is being forced into making a decision -even by parents - is so wrong 100 different levels.
