Lauren Pritchard, who plays Ellie's "crazy mom", also played the abrasive Coach Penny in three episodes of Jessie. Penny was always bitterly angry at her ex-boyfriend Harold for dumping her.
I liked Stuck In the Middle from the start. It has a good feel for life in a large family. It's not great yet, but I expect it to grow much stronger over the second season. The single-camera "filming" technique with no live audience makes life in the Diaz household seem quiet and calm, an ironic counterpoint to the chaos of two parents raising seven children. That actually makes life in such a large household seem sane. (I am the oldest of six siblings, three of each; we turned out well and didn't drive our parents totally nuts. Or the parish priests: like the Diaz's we were a Catholic family.) One thing I like about Stuck In the Middle is despite the craziness and the sibling battles, family comes first. In the end, when one kid is going through something, in the end her siblings and parents rally around her or him.
Yeah, I know filankey is not a word, but it's gonna catch on.
