Hideously slow and boring

I tried watching this movie. Normally I avoid movies that "weave together" stories of different characters to form one single plotline because that formula almost always fails. This movie is no exception to that and I should have trusted my instincts. Definitely pass on this one

this movie is a complete waste of time

so many movies, so little time

Ditto. Pure garbage.

I was glad to see I wasn't the only one to feel this way. Given the effusive praise of reviewers I was expecting great things but was sorely disappointed. Slow and boring story but great acting

This film eventually becomes just too quiet, too glacial and too remote to really convey any emotionally resonating story. I realize that this is Reichardt's unique style of filmmaking but here she kind of forgot some important things like editing and a tangible storyline. The fact that some people's lives are very loosely connected doesn't exactly make for a compelling story without some basic resolution in the end. I call this her weakest film to date.

I watched this just after watching Night Moves which was annoyingly monotone. After watching that one, which was shot mostly at night which automatically cuts out any cinematic shots of striking landscapes except for 1 exception, this movie had more appeal than that 1 !

Agreed with above two comments..Altho I liked the last story, Thats the films saving grace.

And meanwhile I disagree. To say it's complete garbage is completely untrue even if you didn't like it. To me it was artistic, realistic and heartfelt. To many, who have been programme to enjoy films with scored and solid narratives hate on the film because it doesn't give them that. It's to a particular taste, and if you don't enjoy it keep it to yourself.

And yet you ignore the part of his post that has a response to what these criticisms are.

The Cinemotography was nice but heartfelt it wasn't. If you want to view a heartfelt film i suggest you watch "Philomena" with Judy Dench. This movie was a snooozer!

Tough sh!t.

I agree...pass on this absolute uneventful, borring....dry as a bone movie! It's like you keep waiting and waiting for something to happen and....nothing happens. Why would Laura Dern and Michelle Williams get involved in this uneventful film that goes absolutely nowhere? Are they desperate? Two Thumbs down...way, way down!

reply

I'd have to agree. It was mundane. I would've preferred the whole movie to be about Michelle Willam's character. Because there, there was something to look into. And that so called revelation. If looking like a constipated mentally challenged person, is great acting. Then go find your furture star to be, in the nearest hospital's restrooms.

Michelle has worked on several Kelly Reichardt films, they obviously respect each other, and she knows what to expect.

You keep on reminding me of a darkness only I can see
