Who's this guy who's writing the next book?

I just saw on TV that some guy (NOT James, but someone named Lou Skunt) is writing a sequel to Freed where Ana and Grey have their next adventure raising their two kids. It supposedly takes place a few years after Freed. I don't know if James authorized this book or if this guy is just writing it on his own, but I guess we'll see what happens.

First I have heard of this rumor...I know her husband is writing the screenplays for both Darker and Freed...I find it hard to believe she would let her "babies" get into the hands of someone besides her...or her husband.

Ive seen a short story thingy where someone has taken it upon themselves to carry on the story (i have the link if you'd like it). It's a free page online, not download.

The guy who is apparently writing it, Lou Skunt, has only written unpublished novels before. But I guess he's trying to make a name for himself by piggybacking on the FSoG popularity.

He wouldn't be the first person to write FSOG fanfiction. Hell, I wrote a FSOG/Silent Hill crossover... Why does he get TV recognition for writing fanfiction?

reply

Well, they were making it sound like it's a little more than just fanfiction in this case. I don't know how "official" it is (i.e., I don't think that E.L. James gave any sort of approval), but they were making it sound as if this could/will become a movie eventually. Who knows, though? It might all just be gossip at this point.

Dear Lord, let's hope not... The inevitable lawsuit will only prolong Christian Grey's life and ELJ's time in the media.

reply

You're right! Let's hope that it doesn't come to that!

So EL's characters aren't copyrighted??

Obviously most authors look the other way on fan fiction. But I was looking at one fan fic site that listed the authors who do not approve of their characters being used in fan fic.

So, some do seem to play the copyright card?

reply

Yes...all her books have a copyright...C. Fifty Shades Ltd.

reply

Yeah, but Lou Skunt says that he doesn't necessarily need a copyright to write the new book. I'm not a lawyer, so who knows? But he claims that he doesn't need her approval.

I actually am reminded of the Star Wars books/screenplays over the past few years and all of the copyright issues. They were saying that no one could write anything without Lucas's approval, then Disney bought everything so nothing could go forth without Disney approval, then everything had to apparently go through the actors, then the actors quit so the scripts were totally up in the air, etc. Who knows????

That's because he has Stephanie Meyer's approval. ;)

Ha ha, we'll see!

I know Ms. James has said when she was asked to publish her Master of the Universe fan fiction, she was told the could not use the character names of Edward,Bella etc..so she made up her own...

This is the only fanfiction I've seen (and actually read). I dont know how to put in a clicky link on my phone.
