Difficult to tell...depends on how the director got along with the screen writer and the author EL James...who had problems with both the screen writer and director of 50 Shades..

The producers picked the worse possible director for the original, an art house photographer with little film experience rather than an experienced director. Gender doesn't matter, skill does.
