Mainly...because the books sold millions of copies....that creates a fan base..and the first movie made half a billion dollars with predominantly female ticket buyers....evidently John Carter didn't have that fan base...
shareWhich really stinks, because the first book had been published literally a century before the movie's release. And it was almost Disney's first feature-length animated film before Snow White took that honor.
