Has there ever been a sequel that was better than the first one?
I really didn't like the first Fifty Shades but could the second possibly be better?

To answer, your thread title, Has there ever been a sequel that was better than the first one? yes, Godfather 2, Aliens, T2, Toy Story 2 etc!
The movie will still be bad but it may be an improvement from the first one because of the addition of exciting characters/actors most notably Kim and Eric!
The Empire Strikes Back. Forgot that one. I personally prefer The Godfather part one.
Agreed about the improvement of new characters, looks exciting plus I hear Eric Johnson is a great actor. Elana Lincoln is just the worst.
Dakota is pretty (and puts more effort into the films than Jamie) and Jamie is good in The Fall but as a couple they look so bored in the Darker trailers. Jamie kind of has two facial expressions. Can't look past him as a serial killer, plus Christian and Paul Spector have a lot of same characteristics.
It's going to do very, very well at the box office, I just hope people realize that movie theater workers clean up after films end. I'm all for people and their sexual whatever but I think it's disrespectful to them and if they do use cucumbers during the movie (yes, that actually happened) that they do it at home.
I bet they make the upcoming Grey books into movies.

I do believe Darker will be better than the first.
Godfather 2 = best sequel ever !
I preferred Aliens over Alien...Darker and Freed have better stories...more romance...drama..thrills..
shareI personally think the sequels will be better than the first, though I doubt they'll do better at the box office than the first one. The sequels actually have their own storylines, whereas the first movie/book was literally Twilight fan fiction.

Recently, Ouija: Origin of Evil was released as a sequel to Ouija, and it was said to be one of the best horror sequels ever made, while the original was one of the worst films of the year. The sequel got an 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the original got a 7%.
Considering that ELJ's submissi ... err ... husband wrote the script, I have no such hopes for the Fifty Shades sequels.
Hi marshmellow1117,
James's husband is a very talented screenwriter who worked in British television. I don't know how much he can do with an adaptation of weak source material, but I'm sure the next two films will be better than the first. They can't be worse.
They can't be worse
Hi RiveterRose,
I thought the first movie was bland and slow, a mistake with an erotic romance. The second and third actually have stories and should be better. Nial Leonard has an impressive resume as does the director. They should never have put the first movie in the hands of two relative novices.
I gotta give it the actors who manage to say the dialogue with a straight face, that takes talent. Do they have bloopers?
In the Darker trailer, when Ana says, "I'll go to dinner with you because...I'm...hungry "
What does that even mean....?
Hi RiverterRose,
I don't look for meaning. It's a contemporary bodice ripper with a little BDSM thrown in. The first movie should have been juicy, ripe fun, but it wasn't. while I still think both leads were miscast, they did the best with what they were given. I'm sure they'll do better with a decent director.
I think most people consider The Dark Knight to be the best in Nolan's Batman trilogy. IMO Catching Fire was better than the first Hunger Games film too. I know several people who think this as well
