Yes, the book was terribly written but seeing the actors say them on-screen was so awkward and embarrassing. The lines kind of work in the book but even though it is a fantasy, it's not good.

If they really wanted to do something on-screen, they should have done a six part series on HBO.

Agreed, GlitterMoon, but unfortunately, the books would have worked better as a limited series on HBO, but unfortunately, you'd still have the week dialogue and absence of a plotting. The sex would probably have been more realistic though.
