What is up with the repetion?

In the movie, several things are repeated, such as the car wash scene, and various phrases. Is that just some random thing the script writer thought was funny, or is that some sort of technique, or does it mean something bigger in terms of the overall meaning of the film. Maybe they knew this was going to be a cult film, so they wanted to give the audience some "hooks" to associate with?

Yeah, hooks like catchphrases, the Coen bros do the same thing, but in GS it also emphasises the mundanity of it all.

It's the old comedy trick of the more you repeat it the more funny it becomes. Some of the jokes wouldn't have been that funny if they didn't keep repeating it to the point of it just starts making you laugh then you start stay saying them as musicbymartin said to become catchphrases. Plus there was the whole disco thing. Most disco songs just repeat and repeat the same line over and over again along with the music more than any other type of music. I think that was a added hidden joke.
