... if you imagine that the 3 main characters are in fact the same person. I mean, I haven't thought it all the way through and I'd need to re-watch it with this idea in mind, but I think it makes at least as much sense as anything else.

I thought the best way to understand it is as a classic Oedipal struggle, with tiny Brayden secretly wanting to by like his huge dad, and eventually do so by gradually accepting grease into his life.
I guess the idea came to me when that "Hooti-tootie disco-cutie" scene came up. I imagined it as one of those situations where a stupid phrase gets in an unstoppable loop in your head. If you had multiple people in your head and two of them started this up the third would be suffering :)
