Holly Gibney

Was wondering how does Justine Lupe's version of Holly compare to the version of HBO's "The Outsider" played by Cynthia Erivo? Interesting question I think as the 2 versions couldn't be further apart, well at least from outward appearances, & no I've never seen this show or read any of the novels that Gibney was a character in so I cant tell.

But for those of you who did/do, what do you think & how do the 2 different characterizations stack up in your opinions?

holly on the outsider is a much stronger character, much more sure of herself and appears to be auto didactic

although it would have been interesting to see lupe's interpretation, erivo is like an evolved, empowered version

Lupe's version is closer to tbe book.

They are both good in their own way but I like hers more than Erivo's.

Although Erivo has some qualities that show Holly as socially awkward, Lupe nails the character that Stephen King created: OCD (e.g., she must shake hands a certain way or she becomes overwhelmed), disabling anxiety, and socially withdrawn until she finds her niche as a detective who is brilliantly insightful. I read all of King's novels that include Holly, including his latest, Holly, before watching Mr. Mercedes, and Lupe's character is exactly what I would have expected. And I think King would agree. He is executive producer and has a very brief cameo in one episode.
