This year will feature a more racially diverse nominee list because many powerful, well made films were released featuring non-white actors.
I'm black and I do agree that there are more diverse nominee list but from what I've seen it all involves either slavery, rising from poverty, hip-hop...some of the usual suspects in terms of what black cinema gets acclaim and award recognition and that irritates me.
Previous year's nominees weren't chosen because academy members 'related' to them
I disagree. They weren't chosen because they were not award worthy. Creed was entertaining but Oscar worthy, no way.
Will Smith's performance in Concussion didn't exactly blow the doors of the hinges and don't get me started on Straight Outta Compton.
I still believe that Gravity should have won because it was a far superior movie than
12 Years A Slave.
I was initially interested in seeing this because of respect I have for Mira Nair and potential for an entertaining movie but I realize that Disney is in charge of this movie and I have next to no respect for Disney and what they do with their movies.
