Hmmm (SPOILERS FROM FEB. 15th SHOW)

The final result was quite a bit different than the judging. Duff and Valerie had good things to say about both of Peggy's dishes but they had issues with the ones presented by both Matthew and Yeshimabet so how did Peggy get eliminated?! From what they were saying, I was sure Yeshimabet was done, mostly because her cupcake (which was supposed to be savory) was sweet. Duff also dinged her for basically phoning it in by simply slicing apricots and strawberries to represent peppers and tomatoes for her beef skewers. They both admitted that Peggy's nachos didn't really look like nachos but they both loved how they tasted and they were also complimentary of her savory cupcake (even though Peggy herself thought it was disgusting). They even gave Matthew some fairly tough judging for both of his dishes. Rebecca was the only one who didn't have any real negative comments (only one by Valerie about her cake being too dry) so she was a shoo-in. I'm still shocked at the result since it didn't jive with what the judges had to say but I'll get over it.

I'm more convinced than ever that Matthew is the winner because once again, he did most of the talking throughout the show and he also did his commentary first. I'm pretty sure those sit-down interviews take place after the competition is over and Matthew sounded a little cocky again tonight. For one thing, he again said that he wanted to take the win "for the boys" as if that makes it a bigger deal than just winning period. I will give Matthew lots of praise for helping Peggy tonight though. When the crust she needed for her nachos dish still wasn't baked with time running out, Matthew suggested she use phyllo dough, deep-fry it, and add cinnamon sugar to it; he even gave her pointers on how long to fry them since she wasn't sure.

As I've said before, they're all really nice kids but tonight's result just didn't coincide with what the judges had to say earlier. Kind of puzzling. I'm anxious to see what they have to do for the finale next week.

I was surprised myself - for much the same reasons you mention. I was really hoping that adorable little runt would make it to the end.

I agree. They should not have sent Peggy home. That was bull especially since she did what she was told. Made the dessert imposter and the savory cupcake. Yeshimabet did NOT have a savory cupcake and her beef kababs were way too simple. They even said that like 3x! So please tell me how she did not get sent home right on the spot since she didn't make a savory cupcake! She made a sweet one! That's bull. Makes me what to stop watching this. I know why they probably did it but I'm gonna keep my mouth shut on it.

reply

As far as it goes, Matthew's dessert didn't pass muster either on close inspection - which was also mentioned.

reply

I figured it was because Yashimabet has only been in the bottom once and Peggy had been a few times. Idk if that really matters though.

reply

I absolutely was convinced that Yashimabet was going home last night. By the conversation between Duff and Valerie, I thought for sure she was the one. I am sure it was a hard choice because they are all great - but I just didn't think Peggy should have gone.

reply

Apparently a lot of people think it was the wrong choice to send her home, and it was! How does someone not do the challenge correctly and still stay?! That's bull crap. Yahshimabet should have sent home right on the spot for making something opposite than the challenge called for. Ridicioulus. I feel bad for Peggy because she got ripped off and really it wasn't fair to the other two either. They did what they were suppose to do so why should one get rewarded for doing something else. I bet they all thought baking a sweet cupcake would have been easier, but they followed the rules. This alone goes to show you these shows are rigged and played by favorites of the producers and other people involved with the show, not the people that watch it.

Yes peggy should have definitely made it on to next week. But Valerie loves Matthew. And everybody running the show made sure yashimabet was making it to the finale. And Rebecca is consistently good every week so they had to f*k peggy over. Complete bull**** . That little redhead was awesome and deserved a chance in the finale.

It would have been a lame decision if it had been Week 1 but seeing as how they were down to the Final 4 who were going to the finale, the rules should have been absolute. As much as I like Yeshimabet, she didn't complete the challenge as instructed and this was noted by the judges so she should have been the one eliminated. The only way she should have been allowed to stay was if one of the other bakers also did a sweet cupcake but messed up even worse on their other dish. But that didn't happen. Yeshimabet got the worst critiques of the 4 bakers (on both of her dishes).

I really hate to think that political correctness had anything to do with this but it's hard not to notice what a "diverse" group of bakers is left in the competition. Sorry to bring something like this into it and it never crossed my mind before this week's episode but there it is. If Duff and Valerie had said more negative things about Peggy's dishes, I'd be okay with the decision since it is their opinions and we viewers don't have the luxury of tasting what the bakers made. The whole thing just stinks though.

Hopefully Peggy will be another Clay Aiken in that she didn't win but she might do even better than the official winner (did Ruben Studdard ever have a hit?)

You know, after thinking about it, I can understand why Peggy was sent home – and this is one of those situations what lead me to say “I don’t like it a damned bit, but I understand it.” 

The main challenge was “Dessert Imposters.” Rebecca obviously blew that one out of the water and deserved the top spot. Everyone else’s desserts looked as they were supposed to – on down the line, some lesser than others. Peggy’s dessert just didn’t look as much like nachos as it could have/should have. (Thinly sliced strawberries and kiwi fruits - something like that might have done the trick.)

If it had been a more technical challenge, Yeshimabet would have been gone owing to sheer simplicity. (How hard is it? Not much at all, really.)

Anyway, as I said, I don’t like the way things shook out, but I understand why.

It may never happen, but personally I’d like to see Ben & Jerry’s punch up the carrot and cocoanut ice cream recipe just a little and do a limited run. (If they can do it for national figures, why not a “local” who made a wonderful impression on national television?)

I can see your point about the dessert imposters but that still doesn't seem like as big an offense as completely disregarding the criteria by doing a sweet cupcake instead of a savory one. Like I said before, this is right before the final and rules are rules. From the judging, it sure didn't sound like Peggy committed a bigger crime than Yeshimabet.

As for your ice cream comment, that's a GREAT idea! Peggy really seems to have a way with ice cream and I'd love to see her go further with that.

reply

Oh, I don't disagree about Yashimabet at all. She got rather lucky there - and I think she knew just how lucky she was.

reply

The thing is Valerie came in after to console peggy saying she wishes they could only judge on taste (cause its tasted great). But before duff complimented how they don't look exactly like standard nachos but the texture and feel were perfect. But yashimabet spliced brownies and dried fruit with a sweet cupcake? In the end they disqualified peggy soley because her dish didn't look like what they thought nachos should look like.

reply

Finally watched it & was like hunhhh. The only problem seemed to be that Valerie didn't think they looked too much like nachos. Which I hate to disappoint her, but some people like cheese nachos(like me & baseballs stadiums)...which means they would look like Peggy's. I don't care if this show is fake...but Peggy made me tear up when she was having problems.
