Saw it today.
Great performance by Michael Keaton. Would anyone else call his character a crook though? OMG.

shareHe turned into a sleaze ball when he realized what the money would become. Prior to that he was just a sales sleaze.
Scarecrow, scarecrow, the kings men fear my name!
Well..both the McDonald's and Ray saw hpw seedy service worked...they created the basic Speed-ee (TM) system and now we have the "kiosks order enter". You press a computer button and order your food as YOU want it. Helps my communication, as I want double burger, with extra salt, otherwise plain. and specific drinks. works for us all everytime.
shareAs the main character, he was portrayed as both the hero *and* the villain of the story!
shareI don't know, I take a 50/50 view of Ray Kroc's vision and approach. In the McDonald's brothers, you had two guys who came up with a great idea. They were idea guys. In Kroc, you had a guy who could see the bigger potential of their idea. The brothers refused to see what McDonald's could be and gave up after one try to go nationwide. Kroc was able to take their idea and make it a national brand, even when the McDonald brothers refused to adjust to the times and advancement in food tech (such as the milkshake packets that could make great-tasting shakes, without the expense of refrigerating ice cream). Kroc was an implementation guy and had the drive. The McDonald brothers just wanted to make hamburgers.
I think that it's a tale that's been repeated throughout history. A lot of Thomas Edison's patents were on instruments created by other people, like Nikola Tesla. Edison saw the bigger potential of business, whereas Tesla just wanted to make advancements for mankind. If you take a moralistic view, the McDonald brothers and Tesla are certainly in the right but the people who made fast food and modern electric products accessible to the masses were the Krocs and Edisons of the world. Ethically were they bastards? Of course, yet that doesn't detract from what they accomplished when the originators of ideas failed to put them forth. The idea men create; the implementation men change history.
Interesting points.
shareWell encapsulated ! It aligns with my vacillating opinions throughout the film. Today, we have the popularity of Shark Tank on television.
shareWell, Edison was the sort of guy who'd electrocute puppies and baby elephants as "marketing" tools. He was one of the biggest jerks who ever lived. Good comparison for that thief, Kroc.
shareWell they weren't nice guys, that's for sure. Neither were men like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg but look what they did. I'm certainly not excusing their methods.
shareI am from Southern California, so today went to the only remaining pre-Ray Kroc McDonald's,on Florence and Lakewood in Downey. it's the oldest remaining.
