Now that you have seen this movie...
And you see a McDonald's? What's the first thing that comes into your mind?
shareAnd you see a McDonald's? What's the first thing that comes into your mind?
shareThe two brothers who got screwed! Then I felt like a cheeseburger so I got one.
shareThey were out negotiated and then leveraged into a buyout. They could've hammered out a new contract with Kroc and kept their shares that would be worth $100M per year today, but they sold out for $2.7M. Kroc told them at the outset he wanted to put restaurants in all 48 states, and they agreed to that but they couldn't reconcile themselves to the changes Kroc had to make to their initial concept in order to go nationwide.
shareI'm thinking of how far away the menu has gone from the original concept. Way too many options. I mean build your own burgers here in Australia? Can't get much further away from the speedee system than that.
shareHaving finally seen it (on Kodi.com) I enjoy it..and I think of McDonalds and I am even more hungry.
I enjoyed Linda Cardellini's performance...anyone who still thinks of her as Velma in Scooby, a forgotten flop years-ago flick, whether pro, or con, should re-evalute her..and her NATURAL multi-mixing milk shakes on her body.
Agree on how the menu is out of hand! And the thought of them adding kiosks for people to input their orders (coming soon to McD near you) makes me shake my head uncontrollably. Like I'm going to wait in line behind some lady who's trying to figure out how the machine works for the first time? The whole point of McDonald's is efficiency! Aaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
share... ambivalence, I suppose. I appreciate the genius of the brothers' original creation and to some extent of Kroc's expansion, but I do feel badly for the brothers—the real founders, in a sense—and their virtual annihilation.
shareBuilding corporation took a lot of work. It did not just 'happen'. The two brothers yes put a lot of work into it.
But Kroc also put work into making it global--so we know what it is and talk about it beyond San Bernadino CA. His family almost lost their house.
Basically anything in life worth pursuing IS going to be full of challenges and potholes. People are going to laugh at you---including 'friends'. You have to keep at it and work HARD.
Inflation. I was shocked to see that a hamburger at McDonald's was like 10 or 15 cents each! Now it's like almost a dollar and much smaller in size.
shareForget Ray Kroc. Michael Keaton's a VULTURE in "SpiderMan:Homecoming":
shareTbh I haven't eaten at Maccas for at least 4 years now due to my inexplicable poor digestive health. But, I do miss the freedom I had in the past to eat there or some other fast food joint whenever I was out and about.
Having watched The Founder last night though I was just appalled by Kroc's poor character. If this film is true to life then he was a sordid covetous man—His lying, thieving, adulterous ways left a very bad taste in my mouth. I felt sorry for Ethel Kroc and the McDonald bros. who were tossed aside like garbage all for Kroc's rabidly cold and unconscionable ambition. I guess it's true that, "Ambition knows no father," nor any loyalty whatsoever. Kroc may have had persistence, but he was a man of unscrupulous morals.
I love McD.
shareI always think of the burgers I use to enjoy from there. I occasionally remember the song in the old Big Mac commercial....
Two all beef patties,
Special sauce,
Lettuce, cheese,
Pickles, onions
On a sesame bun!
You have to sing it fast!
As for the story of the brothers and Kroc, I think it's an interesting one. Every business began somewhere, and to go nation wide, it had to evolve.
I just saw this movie for the first time the other day. Very good! Entertaining!
I haven't been to a McDonalds in nearly 10 years even though there is one just 5 blocks from where I live. I may just get me a cheeseburger one of these days... see how long it takes.... see if it's as good as it use to be. Smile.
That song reminds me of the old joke I heard way back in Year 5 of a bus driver picking up passengers on his route and he asks each their name and the punchline is after a traffic accident I think it was he's asked who's on board and says, "There's all 2 big Patty's, Special Ross, and Lesterceeze picking bunions on a Sesame Street bus." ;-)
shareLOL! Good one!
