Not much chatter regarding this film...

...what's up with that?
I've heard nothing but stellar reviews about this on the festival circuit, so why the silence?
Besides "The Wailing," this film has been on my top five I'm most excited about list. I suppose I could compare it to last year's Babadook and It Follows in regards to pre-release build-up, so I'm really surprised this board is so quiet.
Anyone out there have a chance to see it, and what other films are you looking forward to in this genre?

reply

I saw it last night. I thought it was fantastic. I'm surprised it's not getting a bigger release. In my opinion it is much better than The Witch which had a wide release earlier this year. The story is so rich and the actors are amazing. The audience was really into it and many people were talking about it outside afterwards. It reminded me of The Devil's Backbone. I am looking forward to seeing The Eyes of My Mother and Raw and Arrival.

reply

The Devil's Backbone was a great film and I'm excited to hear that comparison!
Apparently, it's Netlix release date is Oct. 3, at least that's what's been coming up for the last month when I Google it - that's THIS Tuesday! Not sure if that's streaming or DVD, but surely it should be available on VOD, yes?!

I'm also highly anticipating Arrival and Eyes of My Mother, haven't heard anything on Raw, but if it's mentioned in the same context as these other films, I'm game!

reply

My bad, release date says OCTOBER 7, not the 3rd!!!

Limited theatrical release usually means it can be bought/rented on VOD on the usual sites: VUDU, Amazon, etc.
Fingers crossed!

reply

There were a couple of articles a couple of months ago reporting that Netflix bought it and it should be available around fall.

Hope this hasn't changed as I am very excited to watch it, and well, fall is here, so the release could be around the corner. Got to check a "future releases" list to see if there's a date set.

IMHO a Netflix release these days is as big as you can get.

reply

I just saw the movie at the Zurich Film Festival and we too were told that Netflix bought the film and that it should be available sometime this year.

reply

Yeah I've been looking forward to this as well! It's playing Toronto After Dark film festival in a few weeks but I'm not sure if I'll see it there or wait for Netflix. I think it would be better on the big screen with a large audience compared to Netflix.

reply

I agree, christopher; sometimes the energy of a group viewing on big screen can't be compared to watching at home.

reply

Movie is great! Full of dread and tension. Reminds me a lot of The Babadook

reply

nttrung1611, I agree! Plenty of psychosis to go around between Under the Shadow and Babadook.
And I hadn't jump-gasped that hard in a long time as I did when Shideh was looking out the window in the first half of the film, 'know what I mean?! Ooh, that got me good!
Either one you liked better?

reply

I can't even get an opportunity to see it anywhere.
So that's a problem.

reply

It's available on VOD now.

reply

Good to know!
Would've liked to see it in cinema though.

reply

Yeah, the theater experience was much better considering the sound design, but it holds up when watching it at home.

reply

Well you could get a good sound system at home...
If you were to watch it alone you could of course use headphones, a good pair of those aren't expensive.
