similar films?

similar based-on-literature, not-so-much-heard-of, well played UK/European movies?

I really enjoyed the recent BBC production of The Go-Between based on an LP Hartley novel of the same name -- psychological drama interesting on so many levels -- well acted & beautifully filmed.

thanks, I will put it in my watch list.

An a American film, but one that tackles a similar idea: Meet Joe Black.

I don't think Brad Pitt in the above film does the role justice, but worth at least a single viewing.

If you are happy to watch a black and white film from 1944 I would recommend "A Canterbury Tale". It has similar spiritual values, heightened by the fact it was made in wartime and very much about the war (WWII). It is contemporaneous with J.B. Priestley's play which was written in 1945. Don't be put off by the "glue man" part of the plot. There is a lot more going on in this film than that.

That's a Powell movie right? love almost all his works that I've seen, The Red Shoes!!! talking about that era, another of my all-time fave is Brief Encounter.

but who knows which is which, and who is who
