Well, how do you know that the film is boring? Have you seen it? I have viewed it twice and have found it engrossing, intense in a low-key way, and quite good.
The future Rosalynn Smith was seventeen when she first went on a date with Jimmy Carter; she was a schoolgirl who already held a huge crush on the slightly older Jimmy, and she was immediately smitten. The Obamas' story is more complex and nuanced, especially in terms of race and culture, as I discuss here:
They were also well past high school/college age, and Michelle Robinson initially resisted Barack Obama.
A movie about Richard Nixon and Patricia Ryan during their dating days could be intriguing because on at least one occasion, Nixon voluntarily served as the chauffeur for Pat and another guy while they went on a date—obviously an awkward situation that either spoke to how badly Nixon wanted this woman or that suggested a personal quality that one does not normally associate with Nixon.
If your interested in that sort of thing, read about Grover Cleveland and Frances Folsom. I think they did love each other but it was the sort of thing that would never fly today.
i told you not to stop the boat. Now lets go. Apocalypse Now
