The premise reminds me of "Before Sunrise" which is about a man and a woman meeting and going on their first date. I've never seen Before Sunrise because it sounded boring and so does Southside with You. LOL
I have seen "Before Sunrise," and "Southside" does seem very "inspired" by it. It happens over the course of several hours. It's a date where the location is very important. There is no real conflict; they mainly just discuss how they see the world, etc.
Is Richard Linklater getting a screenwriting credit on this?
It is definitely heavy on the dialogue (not a criticism). It's a light rom com in tone but a lot of relatively substantive conversation as well. In terms of dialogue, I'd compare it to Whit Stillman's movies, such as Metropolitan and Barcelona.
