Stella Maeve
I don't know what it is about Stella Maeve's voice, but I can barely understand her whenever she talks. All the rest of the characters are fine, I can hear them, no problem, but her dialogue is mostly mumble mumble.

shareShe talks in what is known as "vocal fry" a lot... honestly, it's really annoying, and I personally hate it. If you have trouble, there's a site http://addic7ed.com that has subtitles for all types of shows, and this is one of them. Here is a direct url, because there is actually another The Magicians show on the site. http://www.addic7ed.com/show/4908
I have no enemies, but am intensely disliked by my friends.share
Thanks. I tried to find subtitles for this but couldn't. I'll check those out.
What is "vocal fry"?
For starters, to find subtitles for the show check out http://www.addic7ed.com/show/4908. That site is amazing, it has subtitles for pretty much every TV show. As for vocal fry, while she doesn't do it all the time, she does tend to do it a lot, and it's hard to explain. It's a gritty sound that is lower than a normal speaking voice. There are a ton of videos about it, here is one of them: https://youtu.be/YEqVgtLQ7qM. She describes and demonstrates vocal fry in spoken voice. The fry does have a place in music, but that's a totally different thing. Basically, the spoken voice fry is just pretty much disgusting and should stop.
I'm not sure, but I think you need to be a member to download subtitles from addic7ed, but it's completely free so no worries.

That's so funny that you find it annoying...I've always wished that my voice sounded like that lol.
shareI don't hear the fry in her voice. It just sounds deep
sharethere is a name for it?
just looked it up and everything i read on it focuses on women, but personally i mostly know men that do it. here in my office is pretty common, when 2 men are talking about work, they go down a full octave and make creaky sounds. it is very irritating. i always attributed this to men. what's worse is that it is contagious. one coworker in particular -male - does it when he talks to me. i sometimes ignore what he's saying because i'm so irritated by the sound. i used to find myself doing it slightly too when talking to him, but now i make a conscious decision not too.
very very irritating.
