Does this show even have the budget for Fillory?

I touched on this in another post where I said I was disappointed by how they'd changed FX heavy characters like Reynard, The Beast and Ember.

Aside from a few scenes, it doesn't appear so. You can tell by how many scenes take place on old sets (hey, The Beasts lair is the child molester's study!), featureless chambers (like Ember's jizz shack), near invisible castles (!), etc.

I think this show works in an urban setting but just doesn't have the FX budget required to bring a Narnia-style world to life.

Due to the lack of moderators, trolls can ruin the IMDB message boards. Don't feed them.

Apparently not -- hence the line about how the invisible castle was constructed that way mainly for financial reasons :)

The show is well aware of their budget and it did make a 4th wall joke in the finale about it and to be honest, I don't mind. It's great we're even getting a gritty Magicians show whereas other networks would definitely fluff it up

What's the 4th wall joke? I didn't catch that in my second viewing. Unless you are talking about Q's narrating, as said by another user.

reply

I think they make other jokes about it. Like when Q says he hates it when authors give a quick historical overview.

Hey, the beast is the child that was molested and the source of his pain(magic) is in a room that is the recreation of the very room he was molested in!

No reason for that..none at all.
