I really want to like this show

The characters aren't really likable and it doesn't have the depth to make up for the blandness. I don't need to like my leads but at least make them interesting.

The male lead is obviously 30+. He even has the obligatory long hair with half covering one eye. It's all a bit too much.

I guess I feel like the show is mostly style over substance and even then, a lot of style choices are really questionable. The blond's laughably short skirts. The stereotypes, etc.

I wish there was more thoughtful non formulaic scifi/fantasy.

Agreed. I'm pretty much rooting for The Beast at this point.

This show sucks. It reminds me of Naruto and Harry Potter combined into one piece of crap.

That's the point of the show, and of the book. Unlikable, normal, egotical characters in a magic world.

My adbice: stop watching it NOW.

Surely the book must have some kind of quirkyness that makes it at least a little light? Because this is just painfully awkward. There's no real depth and story to anything happening, none of the twists make any sense and the actors are either quite bad or have the worst material to work with, either way they all seem to have the exact same reactions to everything.

To be honest I'm not really sure why I watch this, I guess I have problems leaving things unfinished. Like OP, I really want to like this show.. I just don't.

Alittle light, well, it's not BDSM Clive BArker, but the subtext is that magic is about pain. People are asshoels to cope with it.

It's also about growing, wich is also painful.
