John Duttons hit…..

Ok, something’s bothering me. As I’m currently watching the tail end of this current marathon, I just noticed something that doesn’t make sense.

In the season 5 mid season finale when Sarah and Jaime are taking about the hit, am I not the only one that look like they were talking about Beth instead of John? I mean, at one time Jamie said he thinks Beth is gonna come after him and then he suggests playing offense about asking about hitmen for Beth sooo, how did this get turned around to a hit on John? Am I wrong?

I haven't seen that episode since earlier in the year (or was it late last year??). My wife had the same exact same observation, but we both figured that maybe they talked about taking out both?

When Sarah was telling Jamie she went ahead and took care of the arrangements after John's hit, Jamie didn't say anything about Sarah setting up the wrong hit, so I don't know now. I'll have to rewatch that episode.

Glad to see I wasn’t the only one because when the show came back on, I didn’t think about it until the mid season finale came back on this time on this current marathon.

But yeah, you’re right, I was waiting/hoping Jaime woulda said something like he was under the assumption the hit was for Beth but he never did so now I’m really confused. Maybe it’ll all play out in these last three episodes.

Or it was a writing screw up?

Thought the exact same thing as soon as I saw the first episode of this final part of the season. They were talking about Beth, not John. I guess it was filmed before Costner decided he was leaving.

That makes sense - they were talking about Beth and switched it to John. We can assume I suppose that Sarah and Jamie talked about it after they talked about Beth and did so off-camera.

Y’all, maybe that is what happened but based on Jamie‘s reaction to both Kasey and Sarah, I just have a hard time believing that the hit automatically got changed to John off camera. That’s why, who knows, maybe this was a writing thing that had got forgotten because at the time the script was written and even acted out and filmed, they weren’t expecting Kevin Costner to later say he was done with the show before the show was over and so who knows; maybe the hitman people were originally supposed to go after Beth and not John Dutton but like I said earlier, there were only now two episodes left so maybe there’ll be some kind of explanation.

Well, I just decided to go back and re-watch that part of that episode again and something else I forgot about- when Beth comes over to Jamie‘s house and hits him over the head with something that was on a table and then of course during their interchange, Jamie tells Beth to ask her father and then tells her to ask her husband about the train station, there’s a part where Jamie says he’s trying to protect the ranch for his son and for Tate and he says to Beth that the only person he’s having to save the ranch from is his father and that he says he will uphold that promise ……. But……. After Beth leaves and goes to the governor‘s mansion and starts talking to her dad about the train station, that leads to Beth saying that if this place exists then maybe that’s where Jamie needs to go so in my opinion, they actually do a pretty good job in that midseason finale making a person believe that she is wanting to go after Jamie to get him killed and Jamie knows it so why else would you believe at that point that they (Jaime and Sarah) would be discussing putting the hit out on John and not Beth? Especially after in the next scene, Sarah says his defense is his security detail, and then he starts talking about playing offense and starts asking her about these companies of professionals.
