I've already watched Daredevil and Jessica Jones, but i've just seen so many negative reviews for Luke Cage and Iron Fist that i don't know if i wanna invest in watching them. I mean is it mandatory to watch them to get whats going in certain episodes? Or can i go into this show without needing to see those shows beforehand?
No
You can just watch if you like...theyre all heroes so youll pick it up pretty quickly...
But Iron Fist and Luke Cage were both pretty good if you find some time ... The fight choreography in Iron Fist was pretty weak considering its a martial arts show but it was still pretty good...
And Rosario Dawson shows up a bunch of times in all the netflix series...so thats a good enough reason to watch it all;)
Luke Cage, unlike Iron Fist, actually has good reviews. Though quite a few people have their problems with it, many critics did give it higher praise than Jessica Jones. So, why not try a couple of episodes? But no, apart from being familiar with Luke and getting a few of the references (getting "coffee" with Rosario's character), it's not mandatory to watch his series before The Defenders. In fact, I think his appearance in The Defenders could have been the first time we saw him and you wouldn't feel lost with his character at all.
Iron Fist is a bit of different story. Since The Hand is the big baddie in The Defenders, and they happen to play a big role in Iron Fist, you might want get an idea of what some things mean in The Defenders. But, like a lot of people you'll probably feel like you wasted your time with that show. So if you're expecting disappointment by these two shows, watch The Defenders first and then see if your interest is piqued by Luke/Danny enough to give their shows a chance. Besides, the hand stuff is really not that hard to follow if you've seen Daredevil.
The thing i heard about Luke Cage is the villain in it was lame and could have been taken out by Cage easily but they needed to keep the show going so he couldn't defeat him just yet. Whereas with Jessica Jones, the main villain was a huge threat and took alot of careful thinking and planning by Jessica to defeat him, you never got the idea that she could have easily beaten him. If the main villain is lame it kills the show for me.
So i probably wont watch Luke Cage, just cause he was never an interesting character to me and if you say theres no need to watch it before the Defenders then i would be wasting my time.
I may watch Iron Fist cause i know nothing about him, whereas i got all i needed to know about Cage from Jessica Jones.
Yeah, the villain known as Cottonmouth is seen as one of the better aspects of Luke Cage by some, while others don't find him remotely interesting or threatening. I think he's one of the better parts of the show myself, especially compared to another big threat in the show who was pretty silly. But yeah, the impact he makes does not compare to that of Kilgrave or Kingpin.
And Iron Fist's role in The Defenders is very important, therefore I guess it's worth giving his show a try if you want to familiarize yourself with the character.
Luke Cage was a pretty cool hero when i read comics as a kid
He was (maybe...) the first black American superhero and many of his plots involved saving impoverished communities or black power type stuff
He was almost indestructable, bullet-proof and badass!
He teamed up with Iron Fist a lot and it was all pretty progressive 70's stuff
I liked the show a lot...chk it out when you get a few days off work...its good
mister babadook:
Luke Cage is an excellent show--forget what the haters say.Watch and decide for yourself. I enjoyed every bit of it, especially because it didn't feel all long and drawn out at some point like Jessica Jones (which is equally good) near the end. Yeah, you should watch it, basically to see what Cage is all about, how he got to be who he is, and the interesting people and villains he's got to deal with. I'd definitely recommend it. I'm seeing Daredevil myself, and have also been impressed with how deep and dark it it (and it's action-packed of course.)
