British actor as an American soldier

Aaron Taylor-Johnson? Wasn't there a single American actor they could have cast??

reply

I hear you, it rankles a bit, and i'm a Brit - thing is for me, i am hot on accents, and am hoping his southern accent isn't all over the place, bad accents take me right out of a movie.

but i have no clue why they didn't cast an American, wonder if it's social networking politics due to ATJ's old hag of a wife getting him the gig

want it to be good, love situational character driven intense interaction movies, but will wait and see, i have my doubts though

Foreign actors can be cast due to labor laws restricting negotiations with local actors.

cause he's a soldier right lol, he has been playing american charachters for nearly 10 years. Godzilla, Kick ass movies ?

Yanks probably too ashamed to tag their name to this jingoistic bollocks

Ever seen Black Hawn Down? Most of the actors there portraying american soldiers are non-american. Mostly brits, but also an aussie and a dane.

It's kinda the whole point of acting. Pretending to be someone you're not. This should only be a question if he does a poor job with his accent. If not, it makes no difference what nationality plays what part in a business that is essentially high stakes make-believe. John Cena is not really a soldier and I'm going to guess the Iraqi sniper is not really an Iraqi citizen (unlike the OP, I'm too lazy to look it up...)
