Please say it isn't so??

An excerpt from one of the reviews of this movie that initially, I was looking forward to but now I'm hesitant after reading this. WTF is it with the Toxic Masculinity crap they bag on?? This sort of thing was great back in the day, but in 2025, we live in a society that has simply grown SOFT

"With Wolf Man, the werewolf lore you thought you knew is remixed and transformed in a harrowing horror picture about facing the generational trauma of modern toxic masculinity."

reply

Why are you shocked? The Invisible Man had a bunch of subtext about toxic masculinity in it too.

reply

You know?? I used to have the Invisible Man on Blu Ray, watched it once and returned it to the place I purchased it at for a credit, but this story I couldn't imagine how they could wove another super feminist story out of the WOLF MAN

reply

Ugh. Pass.

This new wave of Universal films sucks. Just go watch the 2010 Wolfman with Benicio del Toro. It was enjoyable enough.

They should've just gone forward with the Dark Universe. I enjoyed The Mummy and it made almost half a billion dollars.

Hi PMX! πŸ₯°

I LOVE 2010's Wolfman with Benicio! I don't understand the hate for it. The "werewolf" in this movie is absolutely ridiculous to the point of being laughable. It looks like that Lo Pam character from Big trouble in Little China. So stupid 😩

reply

Hi SPP! I hope you're doing well.

I saw the 2010 film in the theater and, while I didn't think it was a perfect movie by any means, I enjoyed it enough that I later picked it up on Blu-Ray. I should rewatch it. It's been a long time. Like yourself, I never understood the cold reception it got.

As for this new film, I watched the trailer and it didn't look interesting at all. I also thought that the Invisible Man adaptation they did a few years ago was dull. I paused that one about halfway through and never went back to it.

The tone and feel of these new Universal monster movies seems all wrong.

reply

I liked the 2010 Wolf Man. I think the longer cut on the blu-ray helped it, and was better than the theatrical release.

Sounds like they aren't about monsters, but rather about MANsters.

reply

I saw the film in the theater and then watched it, I think, only once on Blu-Ray. I couldn't tell you the difference between the cuts or feeling like the experience of watching it at home was markedly different.

And yeah, it sounds like you're right. It seems like they're trying to make social statements with these films more than they're just trying to make fun horror movies.

reply

I am doing well, thank you! I hope you are too!

I may still watch this just for kicks but only when it's free on Amazon Prime or Max. I will not pay to see it in theaters that's for sure! I have The Wolfman 2010 on Blu-ray as well 😊

I wish they would stick to the formula of the original movies and not change it to push agendas. It's all getting old to be perfectly honest. I did enjoy The Invisible Man 2020 but mainly because I love Elizabeth Moss! She is one of my favorite actresses. I'm also a big Leigh Whannell fan! I thought it was a well done movie.

reply

The agenda-pushing is definitely getting old! So many films now are about pushing a social message and checking off DEI boxes.

I sure miss the old days when films were principally about providing entertainment. This is one reason why the 90s remains my favorite film decade of all time.

reply

Completely agree with you. And the 70's, 80's. Those decades had some of, if not the best comedies. No one was worried about agendas or pushing boundaries so much. I miss that.

reply

I really like the 2010 movie. I didn't see it at the cinema but I picked it up blind from HMV and didn't regret it in the least. Still watch it now and then.

reply

Did you ever see the werewolf in Return of the Vampire? The werewolf speaks

reply

I have seen that! πŸ˜†

reply

And he looked more like a dog too

reply

He definitely looked like a yappy terrier!

Woke Man

My sister has expressed interest in seeing this and said it looks creepy. She said she'd pay if we went?? Sounds like a decent deal and if it sucks, I lost no $$$$$ over it
