A Very Disturbing 2018 Update of The Crucible
Arthur Miller's classic play about a man who refuses to violate the boundaries of his character even to save his life is mentioned frequently here. And with good reason: Molly Brown is the new John Proctor. No Puritan, she -- but a smart, smart-ass former olympic skier who gets bloodied over and over, gets up and screams, "Again!"
Nice to live in a "free country" where the government can seize your legally-obtained $4M without a trial, then tax you $2M on the seized funds and offer it back to you if you provide "color" to a racketeering trial of criminals you had nothing to do with, then try to jail you for a crime that won't equal "what Wall Street will commit by lunch today".
And despite a federal conviction rate of only 1% at trial, you can't defend yourself because the feds stole all your funds (without a trial). And even if they hadn't, the $3.5M cost of your defense almost equals what they took, so there IS no winning. As they well know.
Hurry -- there is light in the sky!
I now truly am more afraid of my own government than of thugs, mobsters, or terrorists.
