Is the PG-13 rating really that necessary?

I mean come on! The Walk was only Rated PG for thematic elements involving perilous situations, and for some nudity, language, brief drug references and smoking. This is PG-13 for thematic elements and that's it. This sounds like it should have been PG as well. This is so ridiculous!

I believe some movies were made for adults to enjoy and not for kids. That's the impression I got from this movie.
