This movie is not a financial flop
$7 million opening weekend on a $10 million budget is not a flop. Especially for an independent movie.

I agree as well not a flop. Please help with me this:
what was the deal with the little white girl and the black girl going out to play, and the rope around the black girl's neck?
Thanks I was trying to figure that scene out. Let me know please what you make of it.
it needs to make 35 mill or studio lost money on it

It's not independent any longer. Nate Parker sold it to Foxlight for $17.5M
How do you think its in so many theaters, 2100??
I understand that people want to change the narrative but being stubborn or willfully ignoring facts easily Googled doesn't help.

Yes, I think people are mixing up Nate's profit and the movie overall. He spent $10M but he cashed out right away when the film was hot. He likely believed that there could be some back end residual $$ too if the film really took off at the box office.
So Nate, and maybe his investors if he gave them a cut, received a $7.5M windfall.
Now, this movie is on Fox's books and they had to invest in marketing, etc so I have read the same numbers floating around, minimum $35M break even closer to 50M to call it profitable.
I hope Nate has a good accountant because he may have to live off that pay day for a while.
