Something that kind of bothers me,

Nat Turner murdering his OWN master. I am as against slavery as the next person, no human being can OWN another and his own master was not perfect but compared to most slave masters he was pretty gentle and kind. He seemed to genuinely care about Nat Turner. He gave him time off to attend to his badly beaten wife, he protected him from angry people that might want to hurt him. He felt bad about flogging him but it was necessary because he had other white people breathing down his own neck and being Nat's owner they blamed him for the "crime" of baptizing a white man.

He just felt like a really nice guy compared to the other slave owners and abusers of black people. He might still have been cruel and abusive by today's standards I just mean relatively, kind of how a four foot three dwarf is a giant compared to the world's shortest person (One foot seven). Also, many of his actions that were cruel were based on desperation. He was suffering financial hardships and was an alcoholic and was under stress. As I said before he did not want to have to flog Nat and only did it to save some face with the angry white people whom he relied on for business help. He seemed almost apologetic after the flogging and told Nat just to lay low for a while and gave him some time to recover. Even the rape of the wife of Nat's friend was something he only allowed to happen because the man who wanted sex with her was a powerful business man whom he was relying on for financial help.

I was hoping Nat would let him live but kill the OTHER white slave owners, I feel that he should have gotten a pass for lack of a better term.

I hope nobody finds it bizarre that I am saying I feel sorry for a slave owner killed by his slave but he just did not seem like a bad person at all, ESPECIALLY compared to those slave capture gang rape people!

Thank you for the teaching moment.

You're very welcome.

Despite how it must surely sound to the frightened and insecure, they are not intended as thunderous words of condemnation and retribution. But rather, like the faint and almost undetectable sound of a butterfly painfully, yet methodically emerging from the life or death struggle of escaping it's cocoon. And rebirth beginning in a whole, new and more beautiful form. They are actually words of VERY long delayed hope. Intended, very specifically, for those with a desire to hear.

I was really shocked to see him kill his owner. Owning people is NEVER right no matter how well you treat them. In UNCLE TOM'S CABIN Uncle Tom's owner due to financial hardship sold Uncle Tom to a cruel brutal man named Simon Legree because he was suffering financially and needed the money and as soon as he saved enough to get Uncle Tom back Simon had killed him for disobedience. Such a sad story. He felt so bad about what happened that after he beat up Simon he made amends by freeing his slaves. When he realized how evil an institution slavery was he no longer wanted any part in it. He was an even nicer slave owner than the guy in this movie and I suspect if his slaves had joined a revolt that involved murdering all masters they would have tied him up in the basement hidden away for his own safety.

Everything is relative and in this story I kept mentally comparing him to the other slave owners and slave hunters and that was why he seemed so nice.

The character who REALLY deserved to die in this was the slave hunter who brutally raped Nat's wife and I loved seeing Nat kill him. The thing is his own master suffered a fate every bit as horrible and it feels unfair to me that they both suffered essentially the same fate when one was WAY WAY WAY worse a person than the other.

The rapist guy did not suffer ENOUGH in my opinion. I wish Nat had castrated him with that knife so that he could never rape again but let him live after doing so, a better revenge than killing him.

End of discussion, right there. All else is rationalizations and false justifications.

Bye now means goodbye.

So, you're wasting your time addressing me further. I will not respond at all to whatever points you think you're making. You clearly have things about race that you need quite desperately to believe. So, it would be very ignorant of ME to try and get you to stop doing what you need to do.

Thus...

Bye now.

Get it this time?
