Movie of the Year: Suppression = disciplining blacks from reading

This movie is amazing. The Suppression of this movie is what whites have been doing for years, trying to kill educated blacks from teaching, learning, and passing on a legacy.

This movie is iconic. Nat Turner is a true hero, a national war hero. Like Nazi Germany, Nat Turner killed the wicked Nazis of America. We need streets named after Nat Turner, a true American hero!

Yeah! He sure was heroic killing all those children! What a hero! Oh wait.........

Youre the type of dude that watches a man get tortured for hours and says nothing, then criticizes the man for killing his oppressor.

Death is far less worst than what blacks had to endure for centuries. Give me liberty or give me death cause anything less is no way to live.

This movie has been suppressed because America is a racist country. We love to watch movies like 12 Years a Slave where blacks are helpless, but just as long as they are pleading for mercy. This movie was suppressed because no one was pleading for mercy. Shows what black people are truly capable of. This is the reason this movie wont win any awards.

Lets just keep black folk submissive and then they can have oscars.

Very good read. Im not saying the movie was flawless, but to see a movie even touch this topic, and this hero in American lands is a landmark.

With only a 10 million dollar budget, this movie does what it needs to do and it inspires, inaccuracies and all. It inspires.

The movie definitively deserved more praise for its groundbreaking merits, and other merits of the film alone. The movie doesnt deserve what it received, which was a systemic attack to suppress it. Let the people judge whether they are moved by the film or not, fictional accounts and misrepresentations or not. But suppressing the truth is no different than a big brother telling us what we should and shouldnt be watching without our own determining. Thats my only issue.

Nat Turner is a lowlife rapist who should be in jail, not a hero.

it's kinda tough to put dead people in jail.

Your quite right. The movie isn't perfect, and at times terrifiying, but the subject is handled with basic if not total accuracy.

If you're wondering why it hasn't done well in the box office, maybe it's because the market seems flooded at this point. BLM, Colin Kaepernick, riots/blocking interstates, cop killing, etc....

are there movies about colin kaepernick, BLM, and riots?

i hadn't heard about them.

"Educated blacks"? I don't like that term, everyone should be educated, slaves were killed for reading but I'll use it for now. Educated people should have, and likely have been, already telling their children about not only Nat Turner but Sojourner Truth, WEB Dubois, Benjamin Banneker, etc... I didn't need a movie, I've known about Nat Turner since elementary. We used to have class projects where every student had to pick a different figure and report on him or her. No different than students learning the presidents, the states, etc... That's what history class is for, especially during BH month.

If kids aren't learning, that's more of a statement on the schools and the parents, not Hollywood. As other reviewers have pointed out, Nate took liberties between fact and fiction so a viewer would need to read up either in advance or afterwards to know where the line is because films can be more for entertainment than as a documentary. Some educated reviewers have actually been the most critical asking why not just tell Nat's story, it didn't need embellishment.

Fair points. They seem a bit naive, however. Who do you think sets "trends"? Unfortunately, what gets taught, supported, and promoted begins with "Hollywood" (and its political ties/agenda), not the other way around. You are absolutely correct that parents, teachers, and administrators need to be liable for such. Sadly, "Hollywood" has far more of an influence and reach on the gen pop, thus has a great social responsibility. I am sure you know and understand this; let's not devalue the OP's very important point.
Peace and wellness to all.
