that's the only explanation as to why ''girl on the train'' made more money. emily is hot but that movie was awful. no way it made 100 million and birth of a nation only made 14
Nope. This is all Nate Parker's fault. He insisted on getting a full wide release, which was a huge mistake. Look at how 12 Years a Slave and Selma opened. And Moonlight is on the same path because A24 actually know that you need to start out in limited release in order to get that strong per-theater average. That builds strong, positive buzz.
We have other users saying they were given ticket stubs to other movies . . . now imagine that happening who would actually take the time to look at the stub and notice
This sounds like Trump and his rigged complaints. To which I will give the same answer. Is it possible for a few inconsistencies? Sure. But to create a large scale conspiracy theory that if it wasn't for those meddling teenage ticket sellers, BOAN would be at double or triple its current box office tally is not believable.
I saw many people like Roland Martin and his guests encourage people to buy tickets even if they weren't going to see the show. So how many seats were bought by superfans trying to boost the box office? Could that impact the "sold out" signs but no one is in the theater?
14M might, margin of error be higher or lower, however every theater and studio gets audited, they could face fines, etc... If Deloitt and associates come back with a scathing review of theater tracking, I will buy it. Until then, its statistically insignificant.
Wow these videos explain a lot about my questions regarding the box office of this film. how *beep* up is this?
Obviously this happened nationwide. My question is was this just done by racist ticket booth attendees or was this a requirement requested by management?
Oh come on folks, it's not some conspiracy. The public routinely goes to popcorn thrillers, comedies and action movies in droves while serious, depressing, "worthy" movies like "Birth" very seldom do all that well--you could name exceptions, yes, but they would all be EXCEPTIONS. For every "Schindler's List," there's a long list of Holocaust-themed movies that almost no one went to. Same thing with "12 Years a Slave" and slavery-related films. Quality has nothing to do with why a popcorn thriller does better than a serious historical drama; most people go to the multiplex for disposable entertainment, and rarely choose something more "important" or artistic instead. Plus, yes, all the attention paid to Nate Parker's past rape trial put a major taint on the film, and probably turned off a lot of people who otherwise might have thought of seeing the film. But it's not like Hollywood or the studio conspired against it. I mean, the studio paid $17 million to release it--you think they didn't want to make as much money back as they could?!? They don't want a financial loss.
i cannot believe you made me read all this nonsense. please go away and let the adults (who aren't suspected white supremacists), discuss.
also if sexual assault allegation can taint the reputation of a celeb then why isn't the media bashing on woody allen, charlie sheen, rob lowe or the director of x-men? why is 7th heaven allowed on tv but cosby get's banned? or what about the countless pedophiles in hollywood still working today. go watch an ''an open secret''. none of you white supremacists can ever answer THAT
Oh, I see. Anyone who doesn't agree with you 100% is a "white supremacist." Enjoy living in a mental world just as tiny and warped as, well, that of a white supremacist.
still trying to dodge the question aye? if sexual assault can ruin someone's career/reputation then why doesn't it happen to the countless white pedophiles in hollywood. or white male woman beaters
Because Woody Allen, Roman Polanski, etc have a track record in Hollywood, unlike Parker, who just came onto the scene and it is found out caused someone to kill themselves. Hollywood can't be bothered with such baggage for someone without a track record of success. If it was racially motivated, explain why Victor Salva, a white guy with a shady past, also can't get funding for a Jeepers Creepers sequel?
so what about bill cosby he has a track record of success? and his legacy is dragged because of false allegations. why isn't hollywood jumping through hoops to protect bill like they did roman? no one even talks about the father from 7th heaven, even though there is proof.
everyone already knew about victor salva and they made 2 movies. 3rd movie isn't coming out because the movie company was going bankrupt at that time. victor had huge susccess with his movies even after his case. no one even knew who nate parker was before BOAN, depsite him being in several movies, he was a D lister, not mainstream at all.
Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle, was one of the largest stars in Hollywood, during the silent era. He helped Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, in the early stages of their careers.
In 1921 he was accused of raping Virginia Rappe, who later died in Hospital. An examination found that she was not raped. Yet Arbuckle was charged with manslaughter and went through three trials. At the end of the third trial he was found not guilty and fully acquitted. But even though he was the first million dollar film star, and one of the most beloved film stars of the time. He was blacklisted and never returned to his former glory. Some of the companies even went as far as to destroy the copies of his films, held in the studio archives. He made a few films as a director, working under an alias, but never return to his glory days. All because Hollywood worked against him, to insure that he couldn't.
You also have Charlie Chaplin, who was blacklisted and fled from America in the 1950s, all because he was thought to be a communist. He even had to get special permission to re-enter the United States, to accept his honorary Oscar. Upon its initial release in America it was a commercial failure, all due to people boycotting the film.
why do suspected white supremacists always bring up something from almost 100 years ago to try and prove a point. good for virginia rappe only getting blacklisted instead of getting lynched without a trial and having his whole neighborhood destroyed ...aka rosewood aka tulsa race riot.
Charlie Chaplin left America in 1955, now maybe my maths is off. But I pretty sure that was 61 years ago, and continued on for another 20 years. At which point he needed special permission to re-enter the country. So that is 41 years ago.
Why do you always refer to people who make arguments against you, as white supremacists? It doesn't make your point, anymore valid. If anything it harms it. Because rather than attacking the point, all you do is turn it into a personal attack.
you brought up roscoe from 1920. don't try and back peddle now  the fact that you're so adamant on using an example from over 90 years ago and then another example from almost 20 years before my mum was even born, just proves my point even more  
How did I back peddle? I never said that I removed my statement about Fatty Arbuckle. IN FACT I STAND BY IT. I was just pointing out that you chose to ignore, one of my TWO EXAMPLES (CHAPLIN). Which was much more recent, and continued on for twenty years. The fact that your mother wasn't born, is quite possibly the worse excuse for ignoring an argument. Both of my parents were born during that time. In fact my father was working, while Chaplin was banned from the US.
The fact that you've blocked me, just makes you look much worse. Cannot attack my argument, so resort to blocking me.
If it makes you feel better, Woody Allen isn't really selling big at the box office either. His Domestic Box office results are anemic. Nothing over $20M.
BOAN is at $15M, so its in roughly the same boat.
Date Title Lifetime Gross / Theaters 4/18/14 Fading Gigolo $3,769,873 6/22/12 To Rome with Love $16,685,867 7/28/06 Scoop Focus $10,525,717 9/19/03 Anything Else $3,212,310 5/3/02 Hollywood Ending $4,850,753 8/24/01 The Curse of the Jade Scorpion $7,517,191 5/19/00 Small Time Crooks $17,266,359
Match Point only made $23,151,529 at the domestic box office, off of a $15 million budget. Midnight in Paris is the exception to the rule, which made $56,817,045 off of a $17 million budget.
But when you consider that Annie Hall made $38,251,425 off of a $4 million budget, all the way back in 1977. Even Midnight in Paris didn't do great. If compare the two with inflation from 1977 to 2011. Annie Hall would have made $141,984,113.66 if it released 2011.
woody allen's name isn't getting dragged through the mud. plenty of white movies flop, but racists are trying to make an example out of BOAN. and then covering up their racist agenda by bringing up false rape charge.
if woody were to die people would praise him, especially media
If it was a good movie, people would watch it and they would tell other people to watch it. You can't possibly compare a guy who's made 50+ films, some the most beloved in American film history to a guy who's made ONE mediocre film that didn't even have an original title.
a ''mediocre'' film you didn't even bother to watch. i gave you white supremacists proof that the movie was being robbed at the box office and you refuse to accept that. plenty of white movies don't have ''orginal titles'' yet i dont see you b itching about that. bill bosby is ''loved by many'' and still dragged through the mud over unproven accusations. and you white supremacist still ignore that fact!!!
some the most beloved in American film history
WHITE MEDIOCRITY made by a jew within an industry run by other jews
also if sexual assault allegation can taint the reputation of a celeb then why isn't the media bashing on woody allen,
Mike Tyson is a convicted rapist, and now does the voice for his cute little cartoon detective character. Hugh Grant's career was basically nuked by the Hollywood powers that be after he got busted for hiring a prostitute. Your paranoid racebaiting hypothesis is complete bullzhit.

I was reading the weekend box office list to see how Dr. Strange and Almost Christmas faired. I glanced down the list and it looks like Birth of a Nation was pulled from theaters as of Thursday? That's the last day there was any revenue reported, final domestic total $15.7M.
