One of those incredibly good shows that turns up every once in a while ...

I happened on the Australian supernatural thriller "Glitch"
while looking on NetFlix to find something new to watch.
I did not expect much, but halfway through the first episode
I knew I struck gold and had something I was going to watch
and enjoy. I ended up speed watching it in 2 days.

The story revolves around people coming back to life who
have been dead for various periods to time. To make matters
more complicated, one of the resurrected turned out to be
the wife of the local police constable who had died of cancer
some time ago.

The series revolves around trying to figure out what happened,
what are the parameters of this occurrence, and what happens
to those who come back.

The show is brilliantly scripted and acted. Every since actor
shows a naturalness and professionalism that makes you feel
like you are right in the action.

When I watched it and got to the unresolved ending I was
crazy with curiosity about what happens to these people the
viewer grows to love. This week NetFlix brough the second
season of "Glitch" to streaming, and it is every bit as perfect
for what it is as the first.

I am not a fan or horror or supernatual movies, so this had to
be something different and much better for me to be interested
in it, and it really is. Somehow all efforts combined to make
"Glitch" the best series of its kind that I have seen. A distant
second might be "Lost" for the relationships between the people
and the feeling of confusion and wonder it gives you ... at least
for the first season.

"Glitch" is a real gem. 5/5

I agree and like you, I discovered this show while perusing for something new on Netflix and then binged-watched the first season. It seemed like FOREVER while waiting for the second season but now that it's here, I've tried to watch at a slower pace (two episodes a night) and now I have only the last episode of this season to take in.
This is a great show. I love how they build on the character's stories and how the past stories of the resurrected arc into other characters who are currently living in the modern town. Kirstie, Charlie, Patty, John/William and even Kate all have dramatic backstories. Doctor McKellar is still a mystery though. I'm thinking she might have more than one persona in her mind - one from history and the other her previous life as herself.
Whoever writes for this show does a great job and the pacing is excellent. My ONLY complaint is that they have but six episodes in a season.

I watched it, and I notice one thing about these kinds of movies that seems unavoidable. You know how when you read a book your imagination is engaged, and you create a whole world from what you are reading. Well, movies seem a bit like that to me. I love it when a movie creates a whole universe that I would probably never have thought of from my own experience. When a movie is in the universe building stage, I think that is what gets people hooked on it.

What often happens is that as the world being built collides with the need to move the plot on, the plot takes precedence and the world starts to chafe. The ultimate example of something like that is LOST. But one could apply the same pattern to a movie like Alien which I have been talking about recently.

Alien sets us the most spooky universe. A long haul cargo freighter in deep space with a crew that is woken up. All the while until they get back and the creature busts out of Kane's chest we have this total sense of wonder and mystery ... and then bit by bit but pretty quickly is all caves in to drive what is basically a scary haunted house movie. Unique and beautiful, but movies today fail to even think about connecting to the great themes of literature ... meaning they are not art, they are mostly products to divert and distract our attention, and our human natures.

What is good about Glitch to me is that the first season hung on to that and deepened it the whole way. I don't feel that way quite so much at the end of the second season. The necessity to actually expand a TV show's universe and fill it out often stops short of being interesting and is just stupid. That is what I thought of LOST, even though I liked the ride, I did not care for the destination.

I am watching this now, and I mean it's okay, but it's certainly not "incredibly good". The writing isn't great. I feel like the reviews I read on IMDb really oversold it.

I am on ep 2 of season 2 now, not entirely convinced that it's worth my time, or if I should move on to Marianne and Unbelievable released yesterday. This show just doesn't keep me engrossed.

At least with 6 eps per season it's not that much of an investment.
