I just got through watching the first episode and see a few things that bothered me. First: Bob Lee's arsenal of firearms does not look very secure as shown with all of the long guns on the walls and not in a safe. Second: When he is working on the new rifle he is using an adjustable wrench. No experienced sniper or firearms expert uses an adjustable wrench when with a shop like he has he should have a complete set of standard and metric wrenches. Third: The .223 can be either a Nato platform or AR platform. But the ammunition for each have different chamber pressures when fired. They are both very accurate and lethal rounds and have been used for years world wide. The best.223, is a .223 Wylde which can shoot either ammo safely.
I hope the series gets better as it goes along. It has good promise.
Or...the fact he is a recon sniper and moving with his spotter with no ghille suit?
Or that he informs the .223 won't put anything bigger than a squirrel down? ..really? I personally knkw of the .22 used offen to kill quietly. All shot placement, but I digress. M Or that he is cranking away with a harbor frieght channel lock pliers..Hahaa
Or he lives on the coast, all his guns and rifle are just sitting on wall waiting for the salt air to rust em out..or
He is using a red laser $30 to sight his 4.5x50mm mark 4 LRT scope at ? 50 feet? Hahaa no bores ight at 100 yards?
.or that this show sucked worse than a ho at Las Vegas on New years Eve.
Then you guys start going off about stupid chamber pressures or not using the right wrench, give me a break.
A 55 grain AR is *beep* for anything larger than a rodent/prairie dog. Even then I would be shooting 77 gr. I only shoot 55 gr for plinking, nothing more.
The stuff you guys are complaining about is just ridiculous. Most TV shows are lucky to have the scope facing in the correct direction and you guys are talking about Wylde chambers? Are you going to argue next that the barrel twist was too low and the crown was cut incorrectly? lol gtfo
In reply to Regulatori: Give me a break. I worked at Paramount Pictures in the precision machine shop during the mid 60's. That is when Stembridge Gun Rentals was located at Paramount also. I spent many hours working on their movie rental firearms. Converted a lot of semi and full auto to cycle with blanks. Yes, chamber pressure is important, along with knowing the right caliber and grains for for any specific target. At 74 years old I still am learning every day but I still use the correct tools for the job at hand. Wylde chambers were designed for the shooter that wants to use 5.6 or .223 ammo in the same rifle without fear of damage or injury to his firearm, himself, or others. I moved from the "Left" coast to a state where I can own and shoot just about anything I want, and yes, I do some actual shooting almost every day. My choice of daily carry is a FN Five-seveN. Small caliber, high power. Might not stop an Elephant, but will stop what I might need to stop. Still used by the US Secret Service. You are right about TV shows though. All of the suppressors make exactly the same sound, the computer generated bullets make the same sparks, and the Lone Ranger never has to reload. Anyway, have fun with your plinking and your multi-tool for your fine adjustments.
A fairly large (ad expensive) weapon to conceal. But the tiny 5.7 round is arguably one of the most LETHAL hand gun rounds ever developed. It killed a BUNCH of soldiers when that Muzzzie guy went all Jihad on that Army Base. Thank God they will be able to be ARMED after Trump takes office. Oh, and some of the really hot 5.7 rounds swish right through soft body armor!
The Wylde chamber is great. It is a nice hybrid chamber that can handle the pressures of a 5.56 round and still give better accuracy with a the .223 since the LEAD is closer than in 5.56 chamber. I only buy .223. I find I get better accuracy and a much wider variety. But I have plenty 5.56 for any "tough day" that may ever arise.

The FN Five-seveN is quite light for a full size semi-auto. Carries well hidden in a good shoulder rig. 20 round mag with two spares. I never go into Atlanta without it.
It's certainly one of the fastest rounds and has excellent penetration, but most LETHAL, I must respectfully disagree. If you are talking strictly 1 stop shot, than the king is still the .357 magnum. There are more powerful rounds, there are faster armor piercing rounds like the 7.62x25 Tokarov or 5.7x28 FN, and so on. If you are defining lethality by how quickly a round is able to stop a threat, then the .357 has the perfect combination of weight, speed, and energy. If someone is wearing body armor, than it is hard to argue against the Tok or FN though. A .357 will likely not penetrate level IV soft armor, but the guy wearing it will feel like he was hit with a sledge hammer and likely be disabled anyway.
Sorry man, but Bob using a normal wrench was a HUGE mistake, which made the whole scene kind of cheesy. I don't know who the show's advisor is, but im pretty sure Bob would be using some kind of armorer's torque wrench.
Most TV shows are lucky to have the scope facing in the correct direction
But most shows are not specifically about snipers.

Didn't have the correct wrench on the day - we argued about it but without the correct wrench there was just Bob Lee Swagger staring at his weapon.
What is your title on the production? I am going to assume you are legit based on your posts.
The .223/5.56 55 grain cartridge has killed many 100's of thousands of men since its inception. Modern ballistic tend towards a 68gr and a 77gr for long distance. It would make a pretty nasty mess of a squirrel. The typical .22 lr is used for squirrels. The .223 is routinely used for varmints such as wolves and coyotes. So using it to hunt wolves is QUITE appropriate. The kid a Walmart DID know what he was talking about. The rifle looked quite nice. The GRAIN weight of the bullet should have been higher, but even a 55 gr on a 220 MAN can be extremely lethal.
Look to local and State Hunting laws. Especially for deer sized game, many states have minimum caliber of .30. The .223/5.56 is frowned upon by most hunters to take deer sized game, even when legal.
But it IS the standard MAN KILLING round of the US military infantry soldier and Marine
Any prop manager/armorer with out a FULL bag of armorer tools ON SET should be FIRED. Even a hammer and a nail set would have been better than an adjustable wrench. FACE PALM.
You make a show ABOUT a sniper, a SHOOTER, you damn well better get the major points correct. NO excuses.

Im not gonna argue the adjustable wrench - you're right.
But, the .223 issue is arguable. We had two snipers on set (Marine and Canadian) and the line cleared muster. I've heard your arguments and read the others, they're valid - but a lot of shooters wouldn't use a 55 grain round to hunt wolves. Whether you would or wouldn't is beside the point.
Also, that rifle from Walmart was a POS - while it could kill (most can) it was considered amateur by the armorer.
I am an armorer. A GOOD one. The only amateurs are NOT the fire arms, but rather the person behind them. Snobbery in fire arms is usually a sign of ignorance or insecurities.
You can not believe the Butt Hurt I see when I trounce guys with $5,000 plus rifles with my 800 dollar Savage 10 .308 and my $900 scope. It shoots .5 MOA all day long and .33 when I get really settled. I have the same 10 round box mags as the "Big Guys" and I always out shoot them with my "amateur" rifle.
@jhlavin01, you sound like the real guy, the show runner, but you just can't win with these weapons people. You should see The Way of the Gun board. They will beat you to death with their expertise, even if only imagined.
People! People! This is not a documentary. Suspend disbelief. Admit overall the show is doing a good job of building suspense and intrigue. This is NOT a lesson on arms.
It's not what a movie is about, it's how it is about it. RIP Roger Ebert
while I agree .223/5.56 is a good distance round most LD shooters call it a poodle killer round. I have hit a 700 yd target with a .223 and you can hear the gong but hitting it with a 6.5 creedmoor, 7.62x51/.308, or a .50 bmg you will see a distinct difference in the amount of sound/energy expended at that distance.
I think his crack about "killing a squirrel" was the fact that the rifle was obviously new and so figured if the guy did not have any trigger time with it he would not be very accurate with it. you hit a squirrel with a .223 anywhere it will explode... hitting a wolf with 55gr FMJ(that is what was shown) could pass right through leg/hindquarter without a long drawn out death. would have been more correct to say ".223 is only good for a guaranteed clean kill on a squirrel"
now excuse me I will slink back into my troll hole.
Yer he should have had a gun locker... and steel cap boots and a full alpha numerica password with special characters and upper and lower case, and he should have been bigger like arnie or SLy with a deeper voice..he needed a man beard too
Ok moomarrelax buddy. The point is not all these gun nuts on the board but....the title of this series is "SHOOTER"...sooooo, at the very least, get the demographic audience you ate trying to hold-stay by putting accurate material in your scripts and guys like me wouldn't be laughing at the stupidity sone liberal hillary tree-hugger vegan writer dreams up looking out his Brentwood, Ca condo as he puts thought to paper. Adjustable wrench on a firearm is like blow torch to light my cigarette? Stupid, untealistuc, rakes credibility away from show. Get it right, or get moving onto something you know...like Whole foods. Double macciatto grande drinuking Doosh...I'll take a Large coffee 2 sugars, son.
You guys are getting up in arms and im just glad that used the term getting your "dope" correctly.. first time I've heard it in a TV production and cant even remember a film production that used the term
The target audience is the general public and not the so-called "experts" on this forum. I agree there's some inaccuracies but the general public aren't watching this for the shoot tips, they are watching for the drama. Ever wonder why the long guns weren't in a safe? So they could film the actual guns! When he was sighting his scope at 50 feet, they change the depth of field from the target to him all in the same frame. How is that shot supposed to be done @500 yards? He would look like a single black pixel on your TV! This isn't a documentary! I'm sure the are other inaccuracies that had to comprise for dramatic affect. Notice how many "experts" here criticize the gear and techniques and immediately talk about their own shooting prowess and superior gun setup. How pathetic can you be? Talk about projection! If the show bothers you so much, don't watch it. Guns & Ammo has a show for you or you can watch MAC on youtube.
I'm just glad there is a shooting show on primetime and the "shooter" is a good guy. This is a win for 2nd amendment supporters!!!!
I'm not bragging about my prowess or skill with a m24 or m40 (jar head version), but please get your head out of your ass, where the show matters is the story and credibility falls into play. Ok I'll give you the sighting rifle thing, but the rifles on the wall like pictures is just cheese matrix and takes the storyline off with bs distraction. We know he is a recon sniper, no need to show 10 rifles on the wall..leave em in the locker like WE all do. Wrench on a firearm? Nope no pass chief. If I ever saw one of my guys doing that he would need proto logist work to remove said instrument. As for your 2nd Amendment statement, guess what...CALIFORNIANS hate guns, that's why we have the worst gun laws on books so wtf are you rambling on about? People like myself are the minority jack, out here in commiefornia. Get a clue dude, and yes I walk it...do you?
Seriously @dsatchmo? You just proved everything I said above true! For someone who hates this show so much you sure do spend a lot of time on here commenting on this crappy show. I told you this is NOT for you, yet you seem to enjoy hate-watching it and now you are making this about California gun laws. Hahahahahahahaaha... how sad is your life that you have to barf up this garbage on an IMDB forum? You know this is a MOVIE and TV SHOW forum right? Here to talk about plot points, character development...and yes technical details.
Look I appreciate it when people on IMDB tell me about the technicalities of what would or wouldn't a recon sniper would do. I do enjoy learning these tidbits of information it adds to my enjoyment of any movie or tvshow. What I hate is people like you who pontificate on useless dissent about a TV SHOW. I would say get your head out of your ass but I think it's better being in there, hopefully it will muffle your voice.
I respect what you have to say about rifles because you seem to know what your talking about. But if you think Californians hate guns, then I'm pretty sure your evidence is anecdotal. We DO seem to agree with some kind of gun reform though, but that takes all forms. Of course that's just the people I run into, so that's anecdotal as well. I have literally never come across anyone (northern CA or Southern CA) who thinks that ALL guns should be illegal. Now as for me, I still have fond dreams about my M24, I used to put it in my fart sack with me on those frosty/chilly nights in the field (we got really close:)
Haha, as soon as I saw this post, I knew the .223 and the squirrel thing was going to be argued. That argument has been going on since the beginning of the internet. Somethings never change, thank goodness. I like this series, so far (as I write this I just saw Ep.3). I actually like it more than the movie(Sorry, Mr. Walhberg). Hey, we can argue technicalities of firearms till the cows come home- and please do- I need the comic relief. But when it all said and done, let's enjoy it for what it is- a darn good thriller-drama. Keep up the good posts, fight the good fight!
Dave the movie was decent, accurate on many points but the series is getting better as long as they stay away from the firearms lingo..too bad he isn't a EMT or LEO. Yeah the Cheytac m200 is up there with the best long range tactical rifles, I know the barrett vs. Cheytac was no match for the ballis tic .416 round. Faster hotter and flatter trajectory with computer wtf!!! .50 caliber is huge, proven on field but cheytac was next level. I personally always liked mcmillan lapua magnum. 338 (Chris Kyle's) tool in the field...if you have to ask :)....lol
I personally always liked mcmillan lapua magnum. 338 (Chris Kyle's) tool in the field...if you have to ask :)....lol
The .338 Lapua Magnum is pretty much the standard in the field of very long range personnel killer rifles. That very same rifle is viable today as it was over 10 years ago. It is a heck of a lot more PORTABLE than a Cheytac. Except now they have pretty good suppressors for it. The cost of ammo is still sky high, however.
I am afraid the next wave is going to be semi autos in 300 win mag and .338 LM. They are still pretty heavy, BUT portable. The accuracy of semi auto sniper rifles is getting closer and closer to bolt action all the time. We are seeing .5-.6MOA accuracy out of these with the right ammo. Adjustable pistons for suppressed shooting, etc. I LOVE my bolt actions, but once these semi autos get a little lighter, well, I may have to buy one.

Hope you don't live in California! !! I hear that from a few reliable friends about accuracy of semi autos chambered for the bigger calibers. I personally spent years on a m24 remington leupold mark 4 glass rings, 180gn boat tail and it is proven anti personell round up to 1200 yards...but that's the extreme for the rifle... I do remember the earlier versions we used had long action to swap barrels for .300 win mag, but in the end it didn't really hold 0 well. I always preferred the hs precision stock (army) vs. The m40 (marine corps) set up. ..but if that day does come when semis can outperform bolt action with sub MOA, the cost will be so high most people who end up using em will be on uncle Sams dime. I reload 308 for years and have always had better groups, but it's ultimatly who is behind the rifle that counts. Spend 10,000 hours on anything and you get pretty good at it. Not me though..hehehehe
I just watched Ep6 and yes the firearms BS is really irritating. I know it's just a TV show, but it's about a sniper for Pete's sake ... get someone who knows about firearms to check the script !!! The "400 grain" polymer bullet is just too outlandish. It's obviously something about .30 they're showing, maybe up to .338 Lapua, but even that shoots a 300 gr lead bullet max. A polymer bullet is going to be less dense and weigh even less and have a terrible ballistic coeffient compared to a lead or even copper bullet. In the novel the bad guys were using some bullets they had gotten Swagger to shoot from his rifle at their range and recovered them and paper patched them and reshot them at the assassination scene so they still had rifling marks from Swaggers rifle. This made Swagger have to search out an expert in shooting paper patched bullets.
And what was that bracket on the super rifle that looked like something from grandma's bedframe?!?! Who do they think they're impressing with this gun tech BS talk? It's like fingernails on a chalkboard to anyone that knows anything about the subject. The show has good potential, but they're going to ruin it if they don't try to make it a little more realistic.
You Called It buddy...Polymer Bullet Arc. ..hahaaa sure ok wink. But I guess like many posters this show isn't for guys who know their stuff and can see what is realistic and possible and what is pure fiction. I think the film had better facts especially about paper patching a round to disguise grooves which had been used in real world scenarios. The show beats Hollywood housewifes...so I'll give it a pass, but it does irritate when the reality factor becomes a ray gun from star trek. Gimme a break.
