Fantastic and thrilling.

The TV Series version is so much better than the movie. There is more things for the main character to do in the TV version, it's a great on the run cat and mouse fast-paced action thriller and we see that Swagger is resourceful and can take care of himself.

Although I haven't seen the movie in its entirety, from the clips I did see I thought it was pretty boring. Definitely like the show better.

reply

The movie is 50% entertaining, there's some scenes that are a bit too violent, they could have excluded those. They made a good choice with the TV spin-off.

reply

A bit too violent?? There's no such thing.

reply

I agree... a little less violence please for us females. But it is very exciting, and reminds me of The Fugitive. I realllyyyy like this show!! Great cast!

reply

Don't lump this "female" in your category. Don't you know that even us girls can like action and *gasp* violence.

Less violent? The show/movie is about trained killers doing what they do best. If anything, both the show and the movie could have been even more violent.

christiannyblom: The Movie is more violent because we see a female getting brutally beaten by a man, that has not happened yet in the TV Series version, i'm hoping that won't happen in the show because that's just taking it too far.

reply

It happens in real life, why can't it happen in a movie? We see people getting killed, which I would argue is worse than being beaten. We also see Memohis getting drugged and tortured. Again, worse than being beaten. I don't want to see women being beaten either, but this show and the movie depict a part of this world where horrible violence is the name of the game. So the bad guys doing horrible s***t is expected.

It's hard to tell if you are saying the movie or the TV series is "a bit too violent."

I much prefer the series to the movie and I feel the series does a good job of not being pornographically violent yet getting it's point across.

I also think that adding the element of Swagger's wife and daughter was an excellent choice. The movie had a romance element to it of Swagger (a bachelor) meeting and hooking up with Danny's widow. It honored the book but I much prefer how the series has scripted Bob Lee's personal life. It enriches the story and his character.

aGuiltySoul: I was saying that the Movie is a bit too violent.

Yes i agree that the series is better, i also like that Swagger's wife in the series is tough and knows what to do and what not to do, she isn't a timid scared wife, she's a strong woman. The Agent "Nadine Memphis" is another great character as well, another strong female. I like the fact that the show has an even keel of strong men and strong women (emotionally and mentally strong).

reply

Yeah, the part of the movie where he napalms those men and watches them burn to death is an example of over the top violence.

As dark as both the movie and the series are, the series grounds itself in Swagger's family and his loyalty to the the ideals he fought for as a marine.

I also agree that I like Memphis being a smart, determined, conflicted woman. Very nuanced. And can't say too much about Mrs. Swagger.

The only part of the movie that I liked better was that old man in Tennessee. Old man: "Never caught those men on the grassy knoll, they were buried within three hours." Memphis: "You know that to be true?" Old man: "Still have the shovel." 😄

{edit} Oh shy it, that "old man" was Levon Helm. Was there nothing that man couldn't do well?

I LOVED the movie. Re-watched it dozens of times.

I'm shocked at how good the TV series is. I assumed it'd just be remake crap. But holy moly it's amazing. Reminds me of 24 in its prime with how much I want to watch the next episode.

God bless Mark Wahlberg
