Time to Hunt

My favorite book about Bob, but I doubt this show will ever touch upon it except through hack job flashbacks. The final stand-off would be underwhelming because the original time frame involved gear that was 'newer to the time' like laser range finders and night vision optics. Meanwhile, we have Bob's daughter asking for war stories, with horrible lines like "Did you have night vision, daddy?"--- "We don't need night vision we are marines, semper fi"
Holy crap someone actually wrote that garbage...

If you were in a typical Marine grunt unit, most of your PVS14's were absolutely abused. A lot of times I hated using night vision and would only use it for spotting objects. It kills your depth of field...if you're walking on sand with shadows behind it, you can't tell if that are behind is the edge of a cliff or flat ground.

When your equipment sucks, you tend to not rely on it. My PVS14's would rarely focus and had so many swirls/black spots when viewing.

I found his comment funny and very tongue-in-cheek.

Like I said in a last thread, you guys are being way too nitpicky. I will rip on war/military movies all damn day if they have bad inaccuracies....but the stuff in this show is minor.

His joke made me think of this comic strip. The author was Marine grunt (think he was an 0351)...it's very accurate of the reality of NVG's.

Change the last _ to t.

I was an 0311 in the Marines...not saying the unit but I was on Horno in Camp Pendleton. :)

lol, gotta love those NOD's. If you use the monocular versions long enough you'll quickly find yourself navigating around like a trained friggen ninja, because you are so dependent on foot placement due to your crap depth perception.

I'm still giving the show a chance, I'm just concerned how the writers will include one of the best part's from Time to Hunt in the context of this more modern time frame. I don't know if you recall Bob's duel with Solaratov (russian sniper), and how technology shaped the final outcome of their battle.

I enjoyed Time to Hunt because of the Vietnam aspect and the locations. I was a Marine 0311 in the northern I Corps in 1969. But I doubt the TV series can do it justice because they will have to move it to Afghanistan and make the show all PC to attract liberal viewers.

The show runner already announced next season is gonna be the Time To Hunt story.
