Great show, but the season finale... (spoilers)

...was undercut somewhat by the sheer stupidity of some of the characters.

The main one was undoubtedly Grigory's response to the car being shot at by slowly walking in front of where the bullets were landing, and Julie wasn't much better. I mean, after being explicitly warned to shoot first if anyone came for her she tucks the gun away in a drawer (semi-understandable with the kid and all, but still pretty dumb) and decides to have a chinwag after Grigory comes and says hello.

I'm not sure how much handgun bullets would be affected by a motel door, but unloading at least a couple of bullets into it while he was standing outside would have been a way more appropriate response than waiting for the scary evil man to grow bored and start his shotgun phase.

Then, of course, there was Mr. 'We don't take prisoners, but why don't we have a chat now that you've killed all my men and have your hands tucked tightly down your back like a significantly less subtle John McClane at the end of Die Hard?' in the woods, and... yeah.

I know some people have been complaining about fairly innocuous goofs that slipped clean past me, and I honestly don't care about most of those moments from episodes past, but reactions like this from supposedly intelligent or ruthless characters in the finale for the matter of convenience took it all just a little too far.

Great series as a whole, though.

Agree with all that.

The series made for good light entertainment with a bit of easy action... but how much more compelling, tense, dramatic, effective would it (and other shows like this) if they took a really brutal realistic approach.... and thus none of the sort of nonsense you mention above!

Agreed

It was a disappointing episode to what has been a very enjoyable show up to that point

The finale felt rushed, the Russian embassy part was a huge anticlimax (he basically walked in, got his daughter and then walked out)

The whole episode seemed badly edited like they filmed far more to make have made it a 90 minute finale but then decided at the last moment to keep it at 42 minutes instead and lose a truck load of scenes to the editing room floor

That final bullet CGI was awful and it looked like it was done by a 5 year old using their ZX Spectrum computer to render it

That's gold, but also cold.

"Road to Point Reyes" it was not.

The bullet didn't lose immersion for me, but the lack of special effects on the bullet scene were a little underwhelming. The points raised by the OP did make me lose immersion, seriously why did the Russian soldier not shoot him, those were his orders.

I just jumped on this forum to see if anyone else was disappointed by the finale. I'm not the type to nit pick small details and thought the rest of the season was quite good in terms of drama and believability. For some reason they completely dropped the ball in this last episode.

Swagger emerging from behind the tree with his hands halfway down his back was extremely lame and obvious. Russian embassy rescue felt very anti-climatic and the final kill with the slow mo bullet not only looked poor but felt unsatisfying. Episode 9 was much more satisfying.

I wonder what the hell happened, considering the rest of the season was pulled off nicely!
