Why didn't Bob Lee copy off the files on the thumbdrive?

And then give the thumbdrive to the bad guys? Not only did Bob Lee not copy the files off, but the bad guys never considered that he might copy the files off. Everyone just acted like the only copy of Annex B existed on that thumbdrive.

Love the show but I have to agree that was pretty ridiculous

reply

Yeah, you'd think so...
OTOH the thumb drive may not have a conventional file system on it (eg not FAT or NTFS) or could have info or encryption keys outside of the file system that would make a simple copy useless.

reply

EXACTLY.

Didn't Bob Lee hand the drive off to Memphis at one point, "in case I don't make it." Perhaps she had the means to copy or transfer it since she has access to federal data bases. We will have to see if this comes up next season.

Bothers me a bit that we don't see Bob Lee get the thumb drive back from Memphis but perhaps I missed something.

It's not what a movie is about, it's how it is about it.

Yeah. A single line about the drive being locked and encrypted, or requiring a special computer with a proprietary file system would have cleared it up. It's not the first time I've seen a TV or movie with a file on a thumbdrive as the MacGuffin, and it always bugs me. It's not some super technical computer thing that audiences don't understand. Everyone has a used a thumb drive, so if there is some special reason why the files can't be quickly and easily copied from the thumb drive, and distributed around the world in a manner of a few minutes, they should explain it in a single line that would take about 3 seconds.
