Does the first season end where the first book ends? If I want to continue the story past the first season, can I just start with the second book?
And was the first season fairly close to the first book? I assume there's a lot of detail and explanation left out, but other than that, is it close or should I just start with the first book?

The first season covers the first two novels, The Last Kingdom and The Pale Horseman.
The series rushes through the story. Though I did enjoy it, I would recommend the books too. They are very enjoyable. And you'll love Uhtred... something the series has to work on.

The books are far better. Cornwell is an excellent author who arrives for historical accuracy when possible
