This show has a very ROME-like feel
I like it. The BBC never disappoints with period dramas. Anyone else see a little Titus Pullo in the character Leofric?

Rome had better acting and more charismatic characters. The only likable and charismatic one here is Alfred.

Yes, o' Importer/Exporter, I did get a Pullo vibe from Leofric.
Rome was much more crass and obscene, and The Last Kingdom doesn't have an answer for James Purefoy's awesome Mark Antony. The women in Rome also had much more power, not directly perhaps, but in their Machiavellian way they were able to seriously impact events that unfolded.
The thing with Rome is that there were so many ridiculously good characters played by great actors...the abovementioned Purefoy, Ciaran Hinds as Caesasr, Polly Walker as Atia, the kid who played Octavian, Vorenus and Pullo, Cicero, Tobias Menzies as Brutus, Posca. I really can't think of a bad performance in that show.
Rome was Game of Thrones before enough people watched HBO to appreciate (and justify the cost of) a show like that.
With TLK I would say Alfred is up there with Caesar, Leofric was great, and I really liked Amy Wren as Mildrith. Definitely worth the time to watch, but not on the same level as Rome IMO.
Rome was so awesome. absolutely a crime that with such rich characters played by great actors and history to work with they cut it so short. the second season seemed rushed even. the first season was perfect, they took their time to tell the story, then it was like ok we have to cram everything into these final few episodes. just a shame
shareYep. They weren't even sure if the show was going to get a second season, then were told late that the second season would be it, so they'd have to tie things up. Then there was talk of a movie to really end the story, but that never materialized.
