No Danes?

So no Danish actors? Except for Henning Valin Jakobsen? Wasn't there really no Danes there was proud enough of our history to be a part of this? I'm still gonna watch it, I was just wondering.

*groans*

After all is said and done, a lot more will have been said than done.

reply

That was really helpful, thanks so much ?

reply

Sorry, but the inane notion that it would inherently improve a fim or show if the actors' nationality, race, or sexual orientation equaled that of the persons portrayed is all over the boards these days, and it's tiresome to have the same discussion time and again. Also I loath to think what kind of films we would end up with if being proud of your nation's history was a decisive factor in the casting process.

Chelseagirl74's reply sums it all up nicely imho.

reply

Is not cuz I not gonna watch it, I was just curious, that's all,

reply

I assumed Merej's reply to be in reference to your grammar being so terrible they could not figure out what you were asking.

reply

Funny. Why not rewrite your response in Danish then so OP can understand it better?

reply

Peter Gantzler... but he be dead in 1st episode..

reply

.Ubba, Guthrum etc. are played by Danish actors.

reply

Nope; Ubba is played by a Norwegian actor and Guthrum by a Swede...The only dane I saw was the one playing Ubba´s magician.....apart from Peter who died pretty early.

reply

Alexandre Willaume who plays Kjartan is also danish (even though the name doesn't suggest it, and even though he didn't have a lot of screen time during season one, I am guessing we'll be seing more of him in season two :)

reply

Henning Valin Jakobsen as Storri (Danish)
Alexandre Willaume as Kjartan (Danish)
Thomas W. Gabrielsson as Guthrum (A Swede who has been living in Denmark most of his adult life)

It is also important to remember that the term Dane back in those days referenced anyone from Scandinavia. A good chunk of southern Sweden was Denmark till 1720. The series has a fair amount of Scandinavians (there is at least one Swede, and a two Norwegians more), but they are not all from the modern nation of Denmark.

reply

i forgot to mention Peter Gantzler as Earl Ragnar. (not too much screen time though)

reply

And don't forget Jonas Malmsjö(Swede) as Skorpa.

reply

I don't know, but Emily Cox (Brida) accent is spot on.

reply

Brida is supposed to be a saxon (or angle, since Northumbria).

reply

Huh? I see multiple Danish actors and Thomas W. Gabrielsson, who is Swedish but appears in many Danish films and shows...

These people are from Denmark as well: Peter Gantzler, Alexandre Willaume, Andrea Vagn Jensen,

reply

There has aslo been more danish actors added to season 2 cast.

reply

Though they were called Danes, many of the men in the heathen army were scandinavian generally. There is so many scandis in this film, that in general I began wondering about the accents was something even the english had.

reply

Thure Lindhardt will be appearing in season 2.
