I read the books and I was surprised at Steapa's character whom fought Uhtred rather than Leofwic and actually killed Svein the sword-master. I think this character would have been cool in the movie, but I'm sure they had reasons for adapting him out of the screenplay.
shareAgreed. Steapa was a great character. His character would've been awesome. Probably the PC folks in writing axed his role, as he was slow in the mind. Can't have any strong "dim witted" characters in powerful roles.
shareThey may just have thought that they didn't need to introduce him at this stage.
I haven't seen what characters from the books have been cast for series 2 but they could well introduce him now Leofric has died.
I'm thinking they just didn't introduce him to give Leofric a little more time to shine before he died. My guess he will join the series soon although probably a little bit different.
shareI liked him in the books, especially how it was this giant of a man who comforted Hild after what happend to her. He was alwas loyal and he was someone Uthred could rely on. I was so curious to see who they cast for that role :(.
shareI liked him also. A very interesting character. A 100% vicious man slayer in battle, and a quiet, simple man at home.
