If young Odda wanted Mildreth not to marry Uhtred, then
why didn't he just tell Uhtred about her debt? It seems that would've broken off the marriage.
sharewhy didn't he just tell Uhtred about her debt? It seems that would've broken off the marriage.
shareBecause he didn't want to go against Alfred's wishes maybe?
shareGood point! Plot hole but necessary to advance the story I guess?
sharePerhaps King Alfred had ordered the Oddas not to tell. Odda the Elder wasn't crazy about Mildrith marrying Uthred either, but they both knew Alfred wanted the marriage to happen, and that the debt was meant to be some sort of loyalty test for Uthred.
shareThat made no sense. Young Odda had no problem whatsoever conspiring against Alfred on numerous occasions, so there would be nothing preventing him from telling Uhtred the truth to get Mildreth for himself. It was just plot convenience but pretty sloppy in my opinion.
shareGot the impression that he didn't get interested in Mildeth until after she married Uhtred.
