So, Ladies...would you date Gordo? Simon?

A question for the ladies.

Get busy livin' or get busy dyin'...
...That's god damn right.

reply

I'm not sure with gordo having a bit of a stalker problem.maybe the bad side of me might want to help gordo out a bit by dating simon just to gaslight him somehow but I'm how convincing I could be with that and I doubt I'm simon or gordo's type

reply

Nah! Neither of them ring my chimes! They wouldn't be worth buying sexy panties for or getting a bikini wax! haha

You bring up a good point though, I liked the movie , but maybe it would have been better if the two men were hotter?

reply

neither....now if i had to choose between Ed Norton and Jamie Dornan I might have a few sleepless nights thinking over it

reply

Both are damaged but just going by looks Gordo. I don't like that preppy look and Simon is the last guy on this earth I would date. Nasty little *beep* Gordo at least seemed to have a conscience.

reply

Jamie Dornan for me. XD Plus, Ed kind of seems like a bit of a douche.

Whatever the weather my ass! It's hot as hell out here!

reply

erm he was arrested for attempted kidnap of a minor and possibly raped Robin

where's the conscionce ?

reply

neither of those were proven on screen. we don't know if Simon faked that report.

reply

Here's what was proven on screen. Gordo enters people's houses without their knowledge and video tapes and takes people who pass out to the bed and sits on them and smiles with a mask on.

Get busy livin' or get busy dyin'...
...That's god damn right.

reply

Yes, we do know he faked the report. When he got fired the guy on the phone told him the law firm admitted it was false. Simon's buddy at the law firm certainly would have lost a job too. Simon screwed over a bunch of people...including the company since they got rid of the other guy based on that information which is false. They probably had to re-hire that guy they fired because of that information. That guy was smart with his timing on how accused Simon.

reply

Simon. His issues seem easier to fix.

reply

Actually NO, Simon's issues would NOT be any "easier" to fix. People like him who have PERSONALITY DISORDERS simply do not change. Narcissists and sociopaths have a total lack of empathy for other people. I studied Psychology up to a Masters degree level, so I know.

Robyn made the correct decision to leave Simon forever. If you ever meet a guy like that, please walk away and cut off all ties, because thinking you can change him is like thinking you can turn a cockroach into a ladybird.

reply

Gordo brought out the worst in him. I would get upset too if my wife couldn't see that Gordo was a threat. She clearly suspected him of being in the house unannounced, stealing the dog, and killing the fish...and yet she just can't tell him "no." Her blindness would drive me nuts too.

Get busy livin' or get busy dyin'...
...That's god damn right.

reply

Ummm, you completely failed to mention that it was SIMON who "brought out the worst" in GORDON first!!!!!!!!

It never ceases to amaze me how people identify with and actually root for people like Simon - it's a reflection of how messed up America, and the world at large, is today. He was JUST AS MESSED UP as Gordo, if not even worse. At least in Gordo's case, he became the way he was due to enforced trauma. In Simon's case, that's JUST THE WAY HE WAS, and there is no excuse.

reply

This is so true! SIMON RUINED HIS LIFE! His own father tried to KILL him (BURN him) based on what SIMON did! Simon is evil. He is a sociopath. It's scary that this isn't obvious. Gordo would have been a completely different person if not for SIMON. That was one of the messages of the film.

reply

I didn't see Simon as having any kind of personality disorder. He was just a bully. Someone aggressive who needs another aggressive personality to put him in his place.
Gordo had a traumatic past, which I believe would require professional help to overcome.

reply

Sorry, but someone who remains a "bully" with that kind of aggression well into adulthood DOES suffer from a personality disorder. As I said, I've studied Psychology so I know it when I see it.

Another aggressive personality may be able to put him in his place, but they don't really change.

reply

Bullies have personality disorders! It's scary that people don't realize this. It is NOT NORMAL to be evil and sociopathic to other people? He made up a lie "just because he could" according to his friend the chiropractor, he saw how it destroyed another human being's life, and he said, "I don't care." Gordo's past was traumatic mostly due to SIMON. Don't you see the cause and effect here?

reply

If you studied Psychology you should also know that personality disorders can be treated with psychotherapy, like Mentalisation Based Treatment or Schema Therapy.

Someone like Simon probably wouldn't be motivated to get treatment though. And of course his issues would not be easy to "fix". But it wouldn't be impossible.

Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge.

reply

You just proved my point in your own post. People with personality disorders like Simon's aren't motivated to get treatment in the first place - and even if someone DRAGGED them to a psychotherapist's office, they are not going to be in it for the long haul for the therapy to work.

Mentalisation Based Treatment is generally used to help people with Borderline Personality Disorder, which wasn't Simon's problem. The narcissistic and sociopathic types have almost no hope.

reply

Narcissistic PD (which I think Simon has, maybe some antisocial traits but not enough for diagnosis) can be treated with schematherapy, transactional analysis and in some cases affect phobia therapy. Antisocial PD can't be treated very well, I agree.

Lots of people with personality disorders are motivated for treatment. Lots aren't, but that doesn't mean none of them are motivated or can have positive treatment outcomes.
An yes, in the case of Simon, it wouldn't work, unless something happened in his life that made him realise he needed to change.

reply

Good insight

reply

EXACTLY. People who haven't studied psychology don't get these basic facts, unfortunately.

reply

Well his career issue would be pretty tough to fix. He has a major job and got canned for illegal stuff.

In the future, I'll tell my grandkids that I am older than the internet, and blow their minds

reply

Before or after we know what they are really like?

Before: I'd consider myself lucky to date Simon. Not Gordo.

After: Neither.

reply

If it were me, and I were a chick, I'd date Gordo. He is into wild monkey sex after all....

reply

Wild monkey sex! LOL

reply

Gordo: HELL NO. The bad toupe' wouldn't have warranted a 2nd look at him.

Simon: HELL YEAH! Jason Bateman is one of my top three Hollywood studs, the other two being Eric Bana and Andy Garcia. YOWZA!!!

reply

Maybe I would just sing the song mean by Taylor swift to simon and see what could happen.maybe that could be risky
