Did I just watch a TBS original that was actually funny?

I think I did. I'm still processing this. Tuned in to make fun of it a critique how stupid it was going to be. Kept waiting for the other foot to drop while I laughed. Kept waiting for some pathetic effort to convince me of politics that I know are ignorant all the while laughing instead. This is a TOTAL departure from what I have seen from TBS so far except for the good production values which are probably their highest ever for an original. The casting is fantastic, especially the lead. The story was even well written. I'm impressed. I hope that all of this lasts.

Where did you see this?

I thought it didn't start til June 14th?

Be careful who you hate, it could be someone you love.

It was a sneak preview they had this past Sunday

Since Kevin Reilly took over as TBS's president their original programming seems to be improving. Check out Angie Tribeca and The Detour (particularly Angie Tribeca). Those are both pretty funny TBS originals as well.

Yeah, Tribeca is really good -- kind of an "Airplane"-style cop show (but not quite Sledge Hammer). Several running jokes to look forward to each week, and just a fun show overall.

Just saw the first two episodes of Wrecked, and having been a big Lost fan (but not crazy about the ending and much of the last season), this could've been either really good or really bad. So far, it hasn't been as good as Tribeca (which won me over about two minutes into the first episode), but good enough to keep watching. My main nitpick is that I think they killed off the "Jack" character too soon, but then this is just a parody of Lost, not a remake. They do seem to have something of an "anti-Locke" character, and a couple that could very roughly be compared to Sun and Jin; other parallels are a bit fuzzier so far.

I also watched an old episode of Gilligan's Island tonight, which reminds me that I decided a while back that Lost itself was kind of an "anti-parody" of GI in the first place, so even though this show is obviously a parody of Lost, it also invites comparisons to Gilligan's Island, which is still my favorite stranded on an island show.

Angie Tribeca is almost laugh-free, a painfully unfunny attempt to replicate the Naked Gun series from the early 80's, that was actually witty. But thanks for posting Mr. Reilly.

Oh cool, thank you my friend! Will do.

I laughed my a$$ off at that bathroom bit. Hilarious!

I liked it when he was trying to reassure the terrified passenger that no one was going to die and someone on fire ran behind him into the water.

I really loved everyone trying to decide between watching Dumb & Dumber 2 and Selma. The more I thought about it, the funnier it got.

reply

Haha I didn't catch that.

You sure did. I'm loving this show.
The writing is hilarious, and the cast is doing a great job with their characters.
I've enjoyed Rhys Darby in other things, and I believe Jessica Lowe is one of the funniest people around (go find her channel on youtube, it's great), but most of the rest of the cast that I'd even heard of had been hit or miss for me in the past.
Every single one of them seem perfect for who they are playing.
They've already got a second season, and I hope this one sticks around for a long time.

P.S. If you follow the show on Twitter, you'll get some funny stuff too, and they interact with you. As well as some of the cast members like Jessica Lowe, Asif Ali, Ally Maki...especially during the airing of the shows.
They're really having fun with it, and showing their fans appeciation for keeping them employed. :)
It's good stuff.

I am so glad it is renewed - along with Braindead and Vice Principles, it is my favourite new comedy. I was really worried before checking just now that there is a 2nd season coming. During the last episode I was worried it was going to just finish. I really hope that they consider more episodes as 10 just wasn't enough for me, especially with the 22 minute run time. It just flew by each episode. I'm not necessarily saying to make the eps longer, since it is very punchy and well paced but I would love to see 15 or so episodes for season 2. I am always sad to have to wait up to a year for the return of a show like this.. and I'll be heartbroken if Braindead doesn't get picked up for season 2-3.

I totally agree about "Angie Tribeca" being a bad "Police squad!" knockoff..I've never watched a minute of "Lost" but I have watched a couple of episodes of "Wrecked" and think it's TBS's best effort yet..
