I'm one of the few people in America that's familiar with a 1977 film of the same name http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076516/ (The Pack AKA The Long Dark Night)and a similar plot device. That movie starring Joe Don Baker was based on the novel The Pack by David Fisher.

This 2015 film does use the core element of people isolated in a house trapped by wild dogs, but there's no backstory or even an explanation as to why the pack exists. I don't think it's a true remake. I'm about 3/4 through it and it's competently made and a little tense, but there's zero investment in either its human or non-human characters, as opposed to the 1977 film.
Well it's certainly not officially recognized as a remake, because the 1977 film isn't acknowledged/credited at all.

Rob Zombie is one of the greatest directors today
I enjoyed the original when I first saw it as a kid. I've yet to see this one.
