Season 3 premierd at 0.68 million views....

this show will be cancelled. mark my words. this is the last season.

reply

Its in the zone of being cancelled however USA did renew Falling Water and the ratings for that are embarrassingly bad...so who knows.

reply

As others have pointed out in this thread, Mr. Robot is a prestige show for USA--it's winning Emmys--and that means a lot if USA wishes to up the quality of the original shows they produce (and god knows, their network needs quite a bit of help upping the quality of the dreck they run).

Also, anyone who knows anything about what is crucial to a show's success these days is aware that DVR viewers are just as significant a factor in ratings as live viewers are. Just a hunch, but I'm guessing Mr. Robot's audience is more intelligent than the average TV viewer, and smart people know that watching ANYTHING live as it airs is for suckers--you can save 30% of your life by eliminating commercials when replaying on a DVR.

My bet is you'll have to eat your words when Mr.R is renewed for a 4th season.

Told ya

reply

I was a little surprised considering the ratings it now has. I wonder if it’s cheap to produce or has another deal in place for extra revenue.

reply

USA isn't interested in ratings imo. They just want this show to win awards and get critical acclaim. If it wasn't so highly praised it would have been gone a while ago.

reply

I am still thinking there has to be another reason, awards alone is not a good enough reason to maintain a show with a small audience.

reply

What other reason could there be though? I think its just one of those rare occasions where a network doesn't care about the ratings.

reply

It is if they think of it as an investment. AMC rose to prominence due to Breaking Bad despite Breaking Bad performing 'ok' in ratings. Now everyone recognizes AMC as a namebrand network.

reply

Was Breaking Bad audience ever this bad though? I have only been able to find season 5 ratings for the moment and it’s ratings are considerably better. Also Breaking Bad was still followed pretty closely till the end where as this show I have seen a lot of comments that it’s first season was essentially the only good one. And while this is no perfect indicator of overall quality. I knew a lot of people that used to talk about Breaking Bad regularly however I never hear anyone discuss Mr Robot.

reply

I don't think it was this bad but it was bad enough that AMC considered dropping it. Which is why Season 4 ended in a way that it could have concluded the show if that was the case. It was by chance that they stuck it out. I think the long term gains are why they're investing as much faith in the show as they are. It's an excellent show.

reply

Not everyone.

reply

Breaking Bad performing 'ok' in ratings? Wasn't Breaking Bad one of the best rated shows from the get go?

reply

season finale had 0.45mil views. they can't be making money on this show. also season 4 should be the last season. they are going around in circles now.

reply

it's 2017. VOD killed the tv broadcast star.

reply

you mean torrents

reply

torrents? it's 2017, not 2007.

reply

oh really? what do u use?

reply

mr. robot is on amazon prime video. that's all you need to know.

reply

sounds like a service for US customers only..

reply

yeah and netflix is still a dvd rental by mail business, right? you're definitely stuck in 2007.

reply

netflix doesn't exist in Tajikistan..

reply

you're wrong. https://www.netflix.com/tj/

netflix is availabe in more than 190 countries and they're in the black already, as people pay for the content. their acclaimed original shows such as "stranger things" or "13 reasons why" wouldn't even exist if it was about tv broadcast ratings, as these shows are VOD exclusive.

reply

It'll get 5 seasons like it was always planned to get

The an immensely popular and high profile show. I hear loads of people talk about it. But they don't watch it on normal tv because that way of consuming shows is almost dead. The only people who watch normal tv tend to be middle aged women. How many middle aged women do you think would be drawn to Mr Robot? So of course those ratings are going to be bad.

Everyone I know watches it on Amazon. I bet most people who watch it don't even know what channel it's originally broadcast on. I didn't until reading this thread.

It's one of Amazon's flagship shows so I'd imagine they pay USA a hell of a lot of cash for it. Which would be how it makes it's profit.

I think this show is perfectly safe and I look forward to Season 4!

reply

then we need real viewing numbers

reply

I'm not sure they exist for streaming services.

reply

Nope, it has a 4th season.

reply

which will be the last

reply

So?

It's kind of weird i guess.
All kinds of great shows have worse and worse ratings over time. (ok, now that i think of it Colony, Hanniball, Halt and catch fire, Billions - ok, i could be wrong a lot here i guess)

While something comparably shitty like 'West Wing' goes on for years. I guess TV was just worse back then.
