People who say the first part is boring...
does that speak more about the movie or about them?
sharedoes that speak more about the movie or about them?
shareOnce upon a time there were movies made of three acts: The first, a slow introduction of the characters and the plot. A second made to put everything in motion and a Third to finish with a bang. That's what basic movies for people and the rest of mortals represented, and everyone was OK with this model.
Today, most movies, including Comic Book Films, tend to start with a bang and end with a bang (and sometimes bang all the way). That's today movie-making. However, going back to the old model in Avengers Endgame was not a bad thing, I believe. Going slow in order to prepare for the spectacular end has always been a good way to entertain.
So yes, I think it speaks more about the people who just don't want changes, that want the same again and again, that live on repetitions. If you want a movie that is action piece after action piece from beginning to end you already have Infinity War. Marvel is smart enough to not repeat the same formula in the next movie. But people want things the same for some odd physiologic reasons.
And yes, John Campea is just nitpicking the Marvel Cinematic Universe as always, that's what he does. If he were as harsh to nitpick on the DCEU, his show would never end, fact...
MCU characters are paper thin. Suddenly devoting time to them as if any serious drama has been imparted along the way in this circus is ridiculous.
shareMCU characters are paper thin? lool.... they are one of the most well developed characters in any franchise that is why we love them so much.
shareNope, TandyMan is more correct than you are.
shareyes.. besides some exceptions they are al carbon copy heroes. they have different back stories but they are all the same. all are heroic, brave, fight oil the end, do whats right. every single one of them identical except for only the slightest nuances.
shareYou said it best, Jlaw. MCU films are soooooooo overrated.
shareMCU films are the best superhero movies the world ever gets. They are not overated. They are rated accordingly.
The superhero characters themselves, however, are overrated by the movie makers.
JlawsANormlHuman is right. Those characters are just the same just in different shapes. So making the movie into a character drama is laughable at best. Better make it a total action fest like any good superhero movie should be.
I tend to disagree. Example: Logan
shareLogan is not an MCU film.
shareI quote you: "So making the movie into a character drama is laughable at best. Better make it a total action fest like any good superhero movie should be." My post was about superhero films, not just MCU. Logan is a superhero, albeit an anti-hero. Logan has a lot of drama, and it has action, and it is a masterpiece.
shareI'll quote TandyMan, of which the context I was replying to. "MCU characters are paper thin. Suddenly devoting time to them as if any serious drama has been imparted along the way in this circus is ridiculous."
shareThem.
I love heist stories.
I loved The Whole film but the first part I believe our OP means is right after they look for Thanos and Thor went for the head till they got the team back together.
I think that Is the part some people found boring I guess, it’s the only part which could be considered that by some movie goers. Because once we got the team and the plan to get the stones started the movie picked up its peace.
I didn’t think the first part was boring but it’s definitely the part I would have probably run to the bathroom hehe. Though I didn’t do it. I was afraid to loose an important partan the theater but if I’d suggest part to go for your popcorn if you forgot or need the bathroom I’d say do it right after they kill Thanos ( the first time).
they are entitled to their preferences, but i thought the first act was great. i almost want to say it was the most interesting & emotionally satisfying part of the film, but it would be hard to argue against the ending battle.
shareYou would have to be in a very special mental place to genuinely criticize people for complaining that no.20 or whatever it is in a series of generally quite generic copy / paste Marvel films is "boring".
i.e. is there really anything wrong with saying "this mindless action entertainment film (not that there's anything wrong with that) doesn't match up with what I've come to expect from these mindless entertainment action films"? Or is there actually something more wrong with questioning people who may say this?
the movie.. some movies can have boring parts... crazy I know :s
shareI saw EG in theaters twice
came away thinking The first hour was Good, Middle or "Time Height" was decent but the weakest part of the film and The 45 Minutes was the greatest The CBM genre has ever produced...
I just watched EG again On Digital...
and I must say, My opinion has slightly changed....
I now feel the first hour is GREAT, almost Truly Great
I Still feel The last 45 Minutes is The Best the CBM genre has produced
and I middle or Time Heist Is Just WEAK...I accepted now, That for me personally, I'm just not gonna ever come around to that part of the movie.
But I'm quite Glad of how much I'm now Loving the 1st hour of the movie, Not only loving it but actually respecting it, Its Quite deep....
Overall absolutely Incredible movie
I think it might be them. I actually enjoy the dialogue heavy scenes in movies more than action. So I wasn't bored during the first half of the movie. Everything seemed to fly by too. Plus this movie is like 20+ movies in. We had time to get to know them and stuff. So it's nice seeing dialogue heavy scenes with them before getting to the action. My only problem with the first half was pretty much half the humor. The movie is supposed to be a serious situation and I didn't like they were throwing constant humor into dramatic/serious scenes. For example, the whole scene of them recruiting Hulk to help out with the time travel could've been more effective and stuff if they just stuck with the recruiting part and not turn it into a humor scene with the whole selfie stuff and Hulk and Ant-Man arguing about it. The scene should've stuck "straight to the point" and focused on recruiting Hulk to help them out. There would be humor in other parts of the movie. Also, the whole Fortnite crap could've been cut too. That bit is going to make the movie feel dated. I'm pretty sure in like 5-10 years, Fortnite won't be a thing. So when watching the movie again in 5-10 years, everyone will be like "this movie is so 2017-2019" because of Fortnite when it was in its prime/peak.
But I do notice that whenever someone or anyone says a movie is boring or slow, it's always the dialogue scenes and no action is happening. There is no fighting or explosions. So it looks like people just want constant explosions and fighting for 2-3 hours instead of getting to know characters and the story/narrative of the movie. I always watch a movie with this thought that "okay this movie is going to get boring in this part of the movie from what people are saying in their reviews." Then I watch the movie and it never felt slow or boring and eventually the end credits start rolling and stuff. So I come to the conclusion the "boring" or "slow" part was when there was ZERO action happening onscreen.
