Okay, time to commit to an answer folks... Will it beat Avatar?

Yes or no? I personally think it will make it. I can't see the movie completely leaving theatres for months yet and I'm sure in that time it will slowly edge closer to the worldwide record. I can see it finishing on 2.8 billion.

I'm saying no and yes. Why? The desire to get the movie into other income streams and the demand for screens from other studios. Captain marvel will be available on media I believe June 11th. Captain Marvel is also by passing Netflix and going straight to Disney+. Avengers:Endgame will be no different and won't stay in theaters for days and days and days. International box offices have limited release windows (China, etc) so there will be no revenue coming from those venues.

Avengers:Endgame will attain the top spot the same way that Avatar did, a re-release schedule. a re-release will net Avengers:Endgame an additional $25-$30 Million dollars and won't be as costly as Avatar as more theaters have IMAX and many are IMAX Digital. With Digital IMAX you don't need film, cannisters, etc so distribution is much cheaper.

No, with the current release schedule strategy.
Yes, with a re-release strategy.

Yes, I see your point... But what makes you think it will be re-released? It just makes no sense. I mean, re-releasing Infinity War into cinemas again before Endgame came out makes sense, but why re-release Endgame? I don't think Disney give a damn about the record and may even want Avatar to remain at number 1 so they can use that as hype leading into the numerous sequels.

Don't mean to rain on your theory, but just wonder what makes you think Endgame will be re-released into theatres?

reply

I don't have a definite concrete sure-fire statement that it will be re-released. It is an opinion only. It won't be signaled that Marvel cares about the milestone but if it is that close they will strive for it regardless.

A reason to re-release in about a year?

1. Victory Lap
2. A special double feature showing of Infinity War and Avengers:Endgame to refresh audiences as Disney/Marvel embarks on the next phase or whatever they will call this post Spider Man Far From Home set of films or saga. They've already done the 21 movie marathon pre-Endgame.
3. Some type of celebratory 5-year since this, or 10 years since this, or 75 years since that or some such reason will be considered, honored or recognized. Maybe Marvel will call it a Special Edition?

Avatar had the following:

12/18/2009 Avatar $749,766,139
08/27/2010 Avatar: Special Edition $10,741,486
