Precisely. Is this something we should expect in 2018 though? Of course. While I highly doubt any Marvel superhero from both Marvel/Disney - and as I type this - current Fox property is going to be viciously killed off like Logan was (an X-Men in Deadpool 2 perhaps?), almost everyone anticipates an Avenger to perish in Infinity War. Not unlikely, however... assuming things don’t drift way, I personally would not be bothered by it. Besides, it’s evident the movie will carry a darker tone.
Going back to Thor. In addition to losing an eye (by his own sister’s hand), he lost his father, he was stripped from his hammer, and his home planet of Asgard was completely obliterated. On top of that, if the rumors of Infinity War’s opening are true, then most of Thor’s fellow Asgardians will be no more. So with that in mind, Thor was unforgivably given a helluva beating in his last movie. And this goes to show that despite its comedic elements, Thor: Ragnarok set up a darkly serious tone that will absolutely be present in Avengers: Infinity War.
In other non-Disney Marvel films, X-Men: Dark Phoenix is likely to also take a dark path (pun intended). Btw, not to unnecessarily drag DC into this, but since I figured killing off Superman for a minute and having a reputation for making gloomier (albeit dull) superhero movies is something someone else might bring up, I may as well. Unfortunately for the DCEU, their movies have been subpar save for WW.
